The "complex product" of subsets A,B of a group (or ring or...) is AB = { ab | a ∈ A, b ∈ B }. I used to wonder why it was called "complex". It turns out that in the mid-20th century, "complex" was often used as a synonym for "subset". That usage faded, but "complex product" is a surviving remnant.
