Feel so lucky to have been able to buy this beautiful piece of artwork that means so much to me and everyone involved in @spinplatescare.bsky.social There is still time to get a picture that means something to you too! Check this out!

I research the lived experience of parents with children who struggle to or cannot attend school. I call us #GhostParents. Please get in touch if you want to participate in this work. My ethics approval is for any English speakers. We must stop #parentblame. #autism #audhd #pda #ghostparents

There's a basic fact in this piece that can't be repeated enough: locking up people in long-term, secure, clinical and intense inpatient 'care' can be traumatic and makes them feel worse, not better. #LearningDisability #autism #socialcare

Nothing much is getting better … @nihrsscr.bsky.social

Living hopefully in hopeless times? @nihrsscr

What we did in Grantham @nihrsscr

‘Today, despite all the policy and research over decades, the estimated 1 million learning disabled adults in England are still at a big disadvantage in terms of relationships, health and employment’ @nihrsscr

It's not easy being in Government right......

“If you are not disabled and you regularly go to a yoga class, a book group or just the pub, when was the last time you did so with even a single disabled adult present?” Thanks to @johnharris1969.bsky.social for being one of the rare columnists to ask these Qs. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

“When people get to 18, it’s like being sent in a tiny little boat, out to sea. It’s just terrifying.” A lot of nodding reading this from @johnharris1969.bsky.social #SEND

‘Keith looked beyond Harry’s diagnosis and treated him as a human being who happened to have a set of particular needs. Harry was just Harry to him.’ @spinplatescare

🚨 BREAKING: We are delighted to share that our client @ellenclifford.bsky.social has won her case against the DWP over an unlawful consultation held on reforms tightening the #WorkCapabilityAssessment. These reforms would lead to over 400,000 people being worse off by at least £416 a month.

Shocking: 100s of pages of evidence about the reality of ‘corridor care’ in hospitals. It blames ‘obvious and avoidable failure to reform the NHS and #socialcare’. Solutions must surely include approaches to prevent people needing A&E in the first place. www.rcn.org.uk/Professional...

This is a big, welcome deal - even the 'your' (as in 'your mum' rather than just the uniform and awful 'mum').

Does anyone know of any tools similar to Arnstein's/TLAP ladder of participation but for PPI and research? Thanks!

"There is no solution to the crisis in the NHS that doesn’t include a solution for social care." Dismayed to see Wes Streeting acknowledge this - yet kick the issue into long grass with a commission that won't report until 2028. What hope for the NHS now? What hope for those needing care now?

Since 1997 there have been no less than 25 commissions, select committee inquiries & white papers on social care. Labour - who admit social care is in crisis, & that the NHS cannot be fixed without it - just responded by... ... announcing the 26th one 😳

1/4 thread Big deja vu on #SocialCare commission news. My mind's full of dusty white/green papers and names from Griffiths to Dilnot. Can't recall which said 'doing nothing's not an option', all of them? And 3yrs: 3yrs too long. But I need to hope it'll be different and a govt will grasp - then act.

@sabasalman.com thank you for sharing this again.

'Councils are often desperately short of money. But many of them have long histories of being institutionally hostile to challenge and scrutiny from people they tend to see as pushy parents. So they stubbornly fight, and usually lose.' www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Unbearable.

Only 136 out of 10,000 tribunals for special needs support 'won' by councils in England in 2022-23. Is forcing parents to go to tribunal a deliberate tactic by councils to delay funding for additional support needs? 1/2 www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024...

Eurgh typo but I blame fury at repeated failings. Why aren’t #LearningDisabled people treated as fully human? David died from natural causes contributed to by neglect Why no chest exam? Why no NEWS escalation? Why no admission to ICU #DeathByIndifference #DiagnosticOvershadowing #OpenJustice

Please read this if you can - it’s masterfully written, a very difficult read in places, but it’s well worth your time

If you think disabled people, especially those with learning difficulties get the same treatment as anyone else in the U.K., you’re wrong. Imagine how a young person can starve to death in a hospital.

What a thread. What a country. Thinking of Laura and her family on her 30th birthday.
