In continuing to celebrate Black History Month, check out Dr. Brown's 2022 publication: shorturl.at/6ay43 "As a qualitative researcher & an interpretivist scholar, my scholarship prioritizes the voices of Black women political elites, using their experiences as the starting point for my studies."

The latest @pspolisci.bsky.social special issue is out. In the #OpenAccess issue, you will find studies on #gender #diversity & #inclusion, #abortion in the Americas, #population & #democracy, the dynamics of #legislative - #executive relations, #AI in the #classroom & #simulations. Share widely!

Continue celebrating BHM & read: shorturl.at/8E83V "Given the motto of the CBC (i.e.,“Black people have no permanent friends, no permanent enemies, just permanent interests”) & given that its members have their own constituencies...the CBC posits itself as the “Conscience of the Congress.” #polisky

NEW ISSUE from @pspolisci.bsky.social - PS: Political Science & Politics - Volume 58 - Issue 1 - cup.org/3Q2ObbI

If you hadn't had a chance to look at the @pspolisci.bsky.social symposium "Populism and Democracy: Mapping the Field and the Road Ahead" you can find it here: cup.org/42erybO. My quick reflection on populism on the individual level is part of it: shorturl.at/BFrA0. Excellent teaching tool!

This paper is finally out in the world. We found that International Relations students tended to question the abilities and usefulness of generative AI the more they used it.

An overview of the scholarship on how far right political actors use “gender ideology” to smuggle anti-democratic principles into mainstream discourse & a research agenda moving forward. If current trends are any indication, we’ll need all the help we can get.

Now online! "We find that framing transgender rights in the context of LGBT+ rights significantly increases support for transgender sports participation based on self-identified gender." doi.org/10.1017/S104... #polisky

Now online! "...The key takeaway is the importance of students developing critical skills to evaluate & integrate feedback, especially when coming from an automated source. Our study therefore also focused on the necessity of enhancing students’ critical-thinking skills." doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now online! "...presents key insights about Canadian security studies from (1) scholars’ perceptions & experiences of the subfield through survey data; (2) the published discipline via analysis of...journals; and (3) the taught discipline based on analysis of...syllabi." doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now online ft. @zeinmurib.bsky.social! "The rapid proliferation of countermobilizations that target the extension of membership to sexual and gender minorities in the polity requires urgent attention from political scientists..." doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now online! "Drag performers should be of interest to political science because they are community leaders, activists, issue leaders, celebrities, & often the target of...backlash. Political science, however, has yet to make significant progress toward studying drag" doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now online ft. @loicmnzs.bsky.social! "Legacy is so important to many elites that taking time to deal with interviewees’ data in a personalized consultative way...can constitute a form of reciprocity between researchers and their research subject" doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now online ft. @jennpiscopo.bsky.social! "The case of APSR demonstrates that an editorial team’s commitment to widening what counts as political science research sends important signals to authors & that these signals can shift publication rates within a single journal" doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Now on FirstView! "We found evidence of a dynamic in which identity fusion with a leader can set in motion a cascade of support for ideas promoted by that leader, including antidemocratic policies." doi.org/10.1017/S104...

Very proud to have contributed with @larboe.bsky.social @pspolisci.bsky.social symposium about populism and democracy. We focus on the impact of populist parties when in opposition, because most research concentrates on these parties in power www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

New paper in @pspolisci.bsky.social by Kirk Hawkins and I discussing the future of scholarship on populism and its effect on democratic contestation, participation, and representation. We give special attention to how we measure populism, as many current measurses are inadequate for future research.

My new piece in @pspolisci.bsky.social: % of gender & LGBTQIA+ articles in 6 polisci journals. Takeaway: gender articles abt ~6%; LGBTQIA+ articles, <1%. Nearly all use quant methods & men are greater % authors than their % membership in respective APSA sections. www.cambridge.org/core/journal...

Reminder that the deadline to submit is February 1st!

Do you follow @apsa-preprints.bsky.social yet? You should! #polisky
