Sorry for the lack of posts; college burns me out very fast and I’ve lost a lot of energy. Here’s a particularly interesting photo where a wild male promethea moth came to mate with a captive cecropia female I left out to attract mates of her own species. 5/21/23

The IUCN listing for the Goliath beetles have been proposed. Notably, Goliathus cacius and G. regius are proposed to be CR and EN over concerns of habitat loss and to a lesser extent, overexploitation. Some interesting notes on ecology also. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Thank you for letting me draw your adorable moth!! My bug is excited to interact with another hawkmoth like themselves :D

Finally deleted twitter

sawfly larvae are so adorable Tenthredinoidea (6/17/24) (I was too lazy to ID this one sorry)

Opening a slot for these again now that I have internet again ^^

you guys really liked my swallowtail sona.. So here’s a few closeup photos I got of a specimen from the same species. Used a microscope!

Delighted to see our new paper out, led by PhD student Asia Hoile. We explored new genes that emerged during the early evolution of Lepidoptera 🦋 Many cool insights which we think open up new questions to explore. Get in touch if you have thoughts/want to discuss more! 🔗: tinyurl.com/48rx72es

Happy to share we have a new postdoc position in "Biogeography of genetic diversity changes or Macrogenetics" at @utu.fi to work on large-scale patterns of genetic diversity using Lepidoptera= moths and butterflies 🦋🦋 Applications are open until March 10! ats.talentadore.com/apply/tutkij...

Thank you for letting my draw your butterfly in my style!! They are absolutely gorgeous🤩 Our bugs can enjoy some delicious nectar together!

Shading practice with my moff

swallowtail and chokecherry / colored pencil on 14x17 Duralar / 2023 Here we have a swallowtail butterfly (Papilio multicaudata) throughout multiple stages of its life - egg, caterpillar, chrysalis, and imago - perched on a branch of its host plant, the chokecherry tree (Prunus virginiana)!

So uh. Valentine’s day huh?

Did butterflies invent the solar panel? A few springs ago, I saw this marble butterfly (Euchloe sp.) land on the desert floor, then tilt its wings at an angle exactly perpendicular to the sun - like a motorized solar array - to efficiently warm up on a chilly morning (Mojave Desert, California). 🐙🌿

The western monarch butterfly population is near record lows; fewer than 10k individual butterflies counted this year. xerces.org/press/wester...

Finally, the butterfly is real

Hyleoides zonalis - Yellow-banded Giant Masked Bee This amazing native #bee is a #wasp mimic (and she had me fooled when I first saw her). Observations on #inaturalist suggest this beautiful bee is endemic to Western Australia #ausinverts #wildoz #pollinators #bugsky

I don't know if my followers care about dandys world but the voices won and I made an oc for it lol He's just a little guy

Puka had a visitor tonight. A black witch moth borrowed his throne.

The reality of [casually] writing a graphic novel: Jolt of inspiration, outline 5 scene storyboards in one night, and finish none of them before burning out so they look like utter chicken scratch the next day. 🤦‍♀️🙃 Slow & steady I guess. Any tips from writers to organize the process? 🎨 #Scifilit

You can now find the Sahara swallowtail (Papilio saharae) illustrations in my web portfolio: www.lazaroillustration.com #Sciart #insects

Sound UP if you've never heard a dragonfly chew before. It was kind enough to leave a disembodied head on my hand. #invert 🌿

Hi does anyone have any information on Boreidae and how to search for them This definitely will not be relevant knowledge to me while I’m out trekking in the snow

This is the year of the snake, but every year can be the year of caterpillar! 🐛 caterpillar can do anything! Therefore here’s the 12 Chinese zodiac in caterpillar version! Which is the your caterpillar zodiac?

Spotted this female Gasteruption sp. wasp laying her eggs in what is likely the nest of a Megachile sp. bee. It’s not the best quality video, but at around 6s you can see her unsheath her ovipositor. #wildoz #ausinverts #wasp #bee #insects

longhorn beetles can be so pretty… this is a Placosternus erythropus, a Mexican relative of the mesquite borer! I love the vivid colors… (8/3/24)

Locust borers (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Megacyllene robiniae) are common beetles in many parts of the United States. While adults can feed on pollen from a variety of flowers, they have a distinct preference for goldenrods (Asteraceae: Solidago spp.). Palmyra Michigan, 09/25/2013.

A sketchbook page & what it became: inspired by a sphinx moth, Laothoe amurensis!

Comm for @pastelmelon.bsky.social ^^

Sawflies are such underrated cuties. I haven’t been able to spot an adult yet, but I just love the larvae to death Arge quidia (9/4/23) Dimorphopteryx abnormis (8/31/23) Blennocampini? (5/23/23)

We found a few of these snazzy day-flying moths in Colombia. They look like they are outfitted for moth racing circuit. 🏎️🏁 (Erateina sp.) Tatama National Park, Colombia

Artistic expression, bug style. These sawfly larvae make quick work of defoliating the quaking aspen saplings in our yard each spring. I don't mind. I adore photographing them. #bugsky

Ever seen a caterpillar pupate? Here’s a (low quality) vid of a spicebush swallowtail caterpillar transforming!!

Don't let them suppress you I don't care what a government says I'm still gonna keep on going
