Need some drastic changes to moorland SFI in England. Currently only realistically viable option is to up our livestock numbers. It's just not adding up for nature recovery 😕. Rumours of capital grants suspended makes me wonder how Labour government will deliver for nature if at all.

The simple answer is to keep the APR change as it is but if the person or persons inheriting takes on the farm and farms it the tax is suspended unless they decide to sell it. This specifically targets the investors.

No we've dodged the bullet so far but it's winter so only a matter of time.

How severe is your droughting? We've been seeing late spring/ early summer draughting over last few years. Quite the opposite this year it's been somewhat wet.

There is also an article in today's Times [paywall] in which @herdyshepherd.bsky.social says he fears farmers will turn to the populist right. This is what has happened in continental Europe. #naturewriting. www.thetimes.com/life-style/w...

I don't to be honest. James Dyson is actively farming it and employs a lot of farm staff who by all accounts say he's an excellent employer. Better gov had said if benefactors sell propery they trigger the inheritance tax. If they farm it no tax to pay.

I'm a first generation farmer who has paid a mortgage just the same as anyone else. You're right regardless of wether inheritance tax will affect us ( meeting accountant to find out) I feel the same way anyone else does if their property could be devalued.

Ours were supposed to go in later this week but with snow forecast Monday we have a tendency to get snowed in. Rush tomorrow to collect them from grazing and put them out I think.
