Just anecdotally, the 1br Flinders St apartment I rented for $380/w in 2016 is now $525/week. That is just *wild*.

DFFH data shows median rent in inner Melbourne was $425/week in June 2022. That was $625/week by December 2024.

Initially thought they were going to reverse HECS indexation changes, but It's possibly not that - it could instead be a decision not to implement Labor's promised 20% cut to debts. Without clear explanations of what these actually mean, it's impossible to interpret lmao.

It's all part of a astroturf campaign as @cameronwilson.bsky.social has pointed out - Clive Palmer putting ads in newspapers - Advance running ads about it - Neo-nazis rocking up and hijacking ANZAC day may not all be orchestrated but some of it definitely is.
