From what I understand about Phonk, it seems to be Phonk Rap that you call ‘Real Phonk’, from before the invasion of ‘Brazilian Phonk’ or ‘Bass Phonk’. But I could be wrong because everyone tends to say that their favorite Phonk subgenre is THE real Phonk 😉

It's unfortunate. Music must be definable, even if it is inspired by another genre or comes from it more or less distantly. This is what allows diversity and open-mindedness to several musical horizons by knowing where our ears are progressing.

I think Phonk like you define it has to stay Phonk. The “EDM college kids” phonk has to be named differently than Phonk. It's like Limp Bizkit was making the same music as Deep Purple. Rock and metal music has evolved with sub genres.
