I know that in mathematics sometimes we define the "natural numbers" to include 0 and sometimes we don't. In what contexts is it most useful to exclude 0? It seems like in most of the scenarios I can think of, extending backwards from (2 to) 1 to 0 is pretty meaningful. When is it meaningless?
