Preorders work in faerie-time, it seems! @amalelmohtar.com's The River Has Roots came early and sucked me into a rare single-sitting read. (I don't normally have the energy for it) What an utter joy this book is! I laughed, I cried, I appreciated adorable illustrations

Disability is the only minority group you can join at any time. No one asks for it or expects it, it just happens It’s not a moral failing. You didn’t “deserve” it. Most people will experience disability at some point in their lives So why do we treat disabled people so badly? 🧵

My voice is on the internet again! Thanks @erincairns.bsky.social for writing such a lovely story and @escapepod.org for trusting me to tell it

Submissions are open for our Disability Pride Issue! #disability #pride

hey! Fantasy Magazine is currently open to submissions from BIPOC writers (today through Jan 25th) send us your fantastic stories! full guidelines here (PLEASE read the full guidelines before submitting)

On its 4th anniv, I'm reposting for bsky my most popular Twitter thread: a defense of the "inactive protagonist," which birthed the essay below, in exactly the way it was written. But first I need to contextualize how and why it was written. psychopomp.com/fantasy/augu... +

Folks don’t hesitate to tell disabled people to “just stay home” when we ask for covid mitigations The same people who rioted over being asked to stay home for a few WEEKS are perfectly fine condemning others to staying home forever They won’t even mask in healthcare, the one place we MUST go

I've read some wonderful stories already, but now my submissions queue is clear and I hunger for more. Show me what you got!

Literally every company now youtube.com/shorts/hL9pl...

Special Submissions Call! Disability Pride & Magic! The Castle gates are open for an extended special submissions call from 7 January to 31 March, and we are looking for stories celebrating disabled authors, character and themes for this event. Details Below!

Half-formed thought here but another way we should be pushing back against AI is by all making the choice to talk even more loudly about real human artists’ work we’re currently enjoying. We decide collectively how much airspace each piece of art takes up. If you like something, tell somebody.

And submissions are now open! I look forward to reading many wonderful stories and some tough decisions escapeartists.moksha.io/publication/...

I'm very excited to announce that I'll be guest editing a special call for @podcastle.org: Disability Pride & Magic! Submissions open tomorrow. Full announcement here: podcastle.org/2025/01/06/s...

That Israel's actions in Gaza are genocide should be absolutely obvious by now, but perhaps @amnesty.org's report will help sway some people who've closed their eyes from this. www.amnesty.org/en/latest/ne...

#PC864: Al-Kahf by Beesan Odeh, read by Zeina Sleiman. Previously published by Lightspeed Magazine. Rated PG-13 - Content warning for the death of a child. podcastle.org/2024/11/05/p...

PodCastle is extremely proud to present Palestinian Voices, our special month of stories by Palestinian authors. Please see the statement from our editors, podcastle.org/2024/10/29/p.... We stand in solidarity with Palestinian people and their words.

Quote with one thing you've written that everyone should read 👀📚 After three months of living through the live-streamed genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, I wrote something to situate what I was witnessing in a historical context. It ended up getting personal. podcastle.org/2024/10/15/p...

Surprise! My interactive novel is out a day early! This has been a long labor of love, but I'm absolutely thrilled for this game to finally be out in the world. If interactive fiction is your thing, please give HEAVEN'S REVOLUTION: A LION AMONG THE CYPRESS a try.

Beings who enjoy my vocal vibrations, this week brings you not one, but two narrations! 😱 First up, for @strangehorizons.bsky.social, I read the delightful 'Folk Hero Motifs in Tales Told by the Dead' by @ktbryski.bsky.social strangehorizons.com/podcasts/pod...

I'm out in Podcastle with "A Most Lovely Song," a story about historical amnesia. I've been "seriously" writing short fiction for a few years. I'm thankful that these years of effort allowed me to write this story, which, of all my writing, means the most to me. podcastle.org/2024/10/15/p...

This story is so powerful — please check it out!

The fact that AI generated/assisted work is invariably bad is only like third on my list of why you shouldn’t ever use it.

Thyme Travellers: An Anthology of Palestinian Speculative Fiction is out now, wherever books are sold!* *LMK if you have trouble finding it!

🔊 CALL FOR VOICE ACTORS 🔊 [1ANY, PAID OPPORTUNITY] We are searching for voice actors who can speak Croatian to narrate a story in our upcoming issue! The deadline to submit is Aug. 1. MORE DETAILS: docs.google.com/document/d/1...

Up today on the Neon Dystopia website: "Please Disable Your Ad Blocker to Continue", a story about intrusive tech and privatised public space combining to thoughtlessly enable abuse. CW for intimate partner violence, stalking. www.neondystopia.com?p=100042974

People cannot seem to understand--or refuse to understand--that not all disability is static. With many conditions, some days are better than others. That doesn't negate the disability. It doesn't make the shitty days not count anymore.

The real kicker is: short fiction *should* pay so well! Imagine if markets that actually care about it could afford such rates. Subscribe or donate to your favourite short fiction outlets today!

Click the link and let me wobble some air molecules near you into the shape of a story!

#PC840: The Sound of Children Screaming written by @rachaelkjones.bsky.social and read by Heather Thomas. Previously published by Nightmare Magazine. Rated PG-13. Content warnings for gun violence, school shootings, child endangerment, references to child murder. podcastle.org/2024/05/21/p...

There's one week left to enter this year's contests for emerging artists and writers! No submission fees, cash prizes, and awesome judges. Check it out! You can find more details about both contests on our website. Art: dreamfoundry.org/art-contest/ Writing: dreamfoundry.org/writing-cont...

Maybe I'm talking to the wind, but still I'd like to remind the SFF community that "Writers of the Future" is a corrupt, abusive contest that exists mainly to further the aims of the Church of Scientology. Please only speak of it to warn people away and please don't ADVERTISE it!

Caroline M. Yoachim blowing minds again. I read this and then immediately reread it* along with the audio version. Partly out of professional curiosity, but mostly to experience it again in a new way, which seemed appropriate? Anyway, it's great! *This is very unusual for me!

Spread the news! We are extending our special submission call and our special narrator call for Palestinian voices UNTIL 30 APRIL, 2024! podcastle.org/2024/03/08/s...

Btw if you've never encountered Eugie Foster's amazing work, please sob with me over this timeless gem: dailysciencefiction.com/fantasy/fair...

Oh hey, THIS WOODEN HEART by @ecastroianni.bsky.social is up on PodCastle this week and is really fucking timely + really fucking important (and, obvs, really fucking good), so if you only listen to one PodCastle story this year I think this should probably be the one? (He says, before April is out)
