What was your first quilt like?

This quilt was for my daughter, and she helped guide the design process, from picking out the jelly roll, to selecting the fabric for the border (definitely not what I was thinking at the time, but damn that girl has excellent color sense!).

Beautiful! I look forward to seeing how your piecing plays with this center block!

I agree with @quilterphyl.bsky.social - it’s worth it in the long run. Just like so many other skills, it just takes practice. Try out a bunch of different motifs, some will come “easier” to you than others. Lean into the ones that feel more natural. Have FUN!🥳

Ready to learn a little improv, and make your own improv wedge wall hanging? I’m teaching a similar workshop this spring at the Cotton Patch in Lafayette, CA. 🍇🍑 www.quiltusa.com/module/class...

Does my quilting look like Bethanne’s? No way - and that’s OK! Because as challenging as it is, I try to only compare myself to past versions of myself…and my fmq has improved so much with all the practice I’ve put in since I started this quilt! 🍇🍑 #quiltsky #fmq

Absolutely not! But that shouldn't keep you from trying...and remember that we should all be striving to make progress...not reach perfection. 🍇🍑 #quiltsky #dewdropspattern #modernquilter

I was scared to try sewing curved seams...telling myself that my blocks wouldn't lie flat...so I didn't even try. For years. The funny thing is that, once we try them, things are often not as scary or as difficult as we'd made them out to be in our head. Will it be perfect the same time?

Beautiful! It will be interesting to see what kinds of secondary patterns appear when you start laying out your blocks!

I’m so sorry to hear about AQS banning your quilt. Their action is so shameful and shortsighted.

Thanks! I’m not quite sure yet…I think I need to play around with a couple small scale trials first…but I’ll share my progress here!
