Next year’s halftime show will be just a jar of mayonnaise with a confederate flag stuck in it.

Stereogum Managing Editor @chrisdeville.bsky.social's debut book 'Such Great Heights: The Complete Cultural History Of The Indie Rock Explosion' went up for pre-order today. Here's more info about the book, which looks at how indie rock changed the mainstream and the mainstream changed indie rock:

My book SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS: The Complete Cultural History of the Indie Rock Explosion is now available for pre-order! Out 8/26 via St. Martin's Press. Pre-orders are so important for a book’s success, and I’m so appreciative for the early support. ➡️➡️➡️ read.macmillan.com/lp/such-grea...

Drake getting eaten alive by memes is proof that karma exists

thank you to Kendrick and the Eagles for making terrible people angry tonight

Good for Nirvana, but that was over 30 years ago. If it was that easy, every developing artist on a major would do it. PS. What teenager from Missouri signing to a major has an accountant to consult? Unless their parents are guiding, which guessing Chappell’s — a vet and a nurse — didn’t.

The guy who wrote this is clearly trying to argue “logic” by pointing out that labels are businesses, not “charities” and therefore don’t owe artists healthcare. Except an actual logical approach would be that it BENEFITS labels to invest in artists’ health if they expect to make money from them.

here's a much better piece on the issues Chappell raised re: healthcare and musicians. written by @ethanmillman.bsky.social, feat conversations with @umaw.bsky.social, @futureofmusic.bsky.social and more. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-...

Wrote about finding a few hours of normalcy in a Grammys telecast that, abnormally, got a lot right

I guess Drake won’t be reconciling with the Grammys anytime soon lol

Whole damn Quincy Jones catalog to pick from and they landed on "We Are The World" lol

This “we’ve changed” speech is giving “Lumon’s Listening”

Man, this might actually be music's biggest night

Chappell with the BNA speech of the decade 👏👏👏👏

As far as I can tell, the only remarkable thing about him is hamstrings

Doechii… a star is born

Got chills from Chappell Roan 🥲 #grammys

ME: *sits at desk and works* Just focus. Just focus. Don't look around. Do NOT look around. THE NEWS:

that nymag piece on the maga dopes is nightmare fuel written by someone who clearly wishes they could be so bold with their dumbassery... but on the bright (?) side it's inspiring some banger comments

The folks obsessively posting about egg prices for the past few years have gone strangely quiet just as egg prices hit an all-time high.

don’t write for new spin. see: their transphobic op-ed, u.s. army partnership, etc.

Historian of fascism here. It was a Nazi salute and a very belligerent one too.

defector: fascist fucker gives nazi salute new york times: at trump’s inauguration, a curious salutation

On this cold Monday afternoon in the nation’s capital, a twice-impeached convicted felon will be inaugurated in the very building where his attempt to steal an election four years ago left pools of blood. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Rewatching 'Younger' is kinda trippy now being closer to Liza's age; the gulf between 26 and 40 felt so much wider in 2015

From the archives: David Lynch discussing his 2011 album ‘Crazy Clown Time’ 🤍

Among many other things, David Lynch understood that there was evil lurking beneath the fabric of America. He knew how evil the atomic bomb was, and what kind of evil. I think often about episode 8 of the Return, about the creation of a metaphysical evil that stretches backwards and forwards in time

“I believe life is a continuum, and that no one really dies, they just drop their physical body and we'll all meet again, like the song says. It's sad but it's not devastating if you think like that... It's a continuum, and we're all going to be fine at the end of the story.” — David Lynch

I don't want to ~customize~ my resume with keywords from the job description; I just want to use ONE resume

In a fucked up world of Musks, aspire to be a Mills

This @poniewozik.bsky.social essay about TV titles sequences is very good and makes great use of video illustration. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/13/a...

100% this. A NY Mag subscription right now is 60% off. It's $1 for four weeks. Doing a piece like the Gaiman article takes an intense amount of time from a ton of people, and only with financial support can investigations like this continue to happen.

this is one of the most brutal things i’ve ever read. gaiman is a fucking monster.

Just saw a no-longer relevant evacuation notice on instagram from five hours ago and remembered — that’s right, due to hyper-monetization every major social network no longer shows you life-saving breaking news as it happens. They turned it over to an algorithm that finally noticed “he likes fire.”
