The phrase “seen as” in this New York Times headline says so much about the Times’ cowardly journalistic distance from the MAGA assault on our freedoms. NYT reporters and editors *know* Trump is undermining the justice system. Yet they pretend it is just an opinion.

These are important wording choices. When you describe lawbreaking this way, you’re communicating to the reader that sure, maybe it’s TECHNICALLY illegal, but it can’t REALLY be that important. Nobody describes street criminals as “unbound by legal niceties.”
