so, when people argue for compromise, they say it like, "this is how we can beat the fascists," but what they really mean is, "the fascists are right and we should join them in making our country at least a little more fascist."

Flip your center in US history from white people to Black and Indigenous people, look at the Exclusion Acts, and understand the US isn't sliding towards fascism. It is reverting to its original state. And your utopian dreams about European comfort, freedom, etc? Yeah, take a harder look.

Aren't you? "This is so sad. But..." How else is that "but" meant to be read, except as a caveat, an exemption of the sadness?
(Trump eked out a 1-2% margin of Latine voters age 45-64, every other demo went Harris. 47% of hispanic ppl in the US are not eligible to vote at all.)

undocumented ppl cannot vote
ppl who voted trump have community member or family members who did not vote for trump
ppl who voted for trump do not deserve to be dragged out of their churches and imprisoned without due process
because bad things are still bad even they happen to ppl you dislike

Universities — including the schools that most aggressively shut down student activism — are now fully panicking because the Trump administration is about to shut down all kinds of funding for research and more. Too bad they made it clear that their students shouldn’t speak up and speak out.

OSU students tried to hold a multi-faith prayer in the middle of the campus quad in protest of the war and rooftop snipers were trained on them before the cops broke them up. And now many of the people who CHEERED for the cops, especially university administrators, are like 😮. It’s infuriating.

I will also add that people in Congress are not volunteers. They are being paid. They have health insurance. They have retirement. They have ONE JOB—to serve their constituents. And if they cannot figure out how to push back politically they don't deserve to be in office.
