I'm not saying you can't be mad at people who voted for this, I'm just over the complete refusal to acknowledge that it's more complex than "somewhere between a third and half the country is evil".

I'm so tired of the "nah bro they did vote for this" because so often it's just pure, unproductive rage. Like okay, what do you want to do with that "these people can't be fixed" line of thinking? Literally what's the next productive step?

Are apps like Meetup and Bumble For Friends active over there? They're extremely hit and miss for me but I've met some extremely cool people and found cool events through them occasionally.

You should not read comics while driving.

I'm less afraid of a theoretical AI that's smarter than us and a lot more afraid of the ongoing process of shoveling AI that's dumb as a brick into vital public infrastructure.

Defense mechanism to avoid going insane in the face of overwhelming injustice and inhumanity? If I had to guess.

I have bad news about the times and culture we live in

Det er rigtigt at der er mange ting man går glip af. Det er næsten som om det faktisk er et problem at vi i så høj grad har indrettet en kultur omkring alkohol! Hvad med om det var en vinkel man kunne se på?

An accident at 81mph and one at 65mph are *vastly* different in the amount of damage they cause, that's the difference. Speed cameras don't fix everything, but they reduce speeding, that's just an observable fact. The fact that speeding is normal isn't really a defense. Lots of shitty things are.

Gun people I can sort of just dismiss and not feel guilty about it, but the way I can share 97% of my values with someone but then they reveal that they're terminally car brained has been one of the great culture shocks of moving here.

He did in fact go on to claim that even urban America cannot be made bike friendly because "it simply isn't designed that way" before I blocked him. I cannot with these "better things aren't possible" dipshits.
comment in response to post
"our problems cannot be fixed because america is special and unique and therefore you are an idiot if you try" is a special kind of brainrot that some people have and it colors a lot of discourse over here.

It's not a binary. Sure, you can't replace cars 100% everywhere, but almost all discussions about cars are centered around urban traffic and there are absolutely no good reasons we shouldn't be working to change infrastructure in urban environments to reduce reliance on cars.
