it really doesn’t matter if someone is in america illegally or not. who cares, grow up

You may not be in a position to fight the American Gestapo but you can take video of them, wave your middle finger at them, and show that Americans will not meekly surrender to them.

The public meltdown happening between the world’s richest man 🙄 and the President of the United States 🙄🙄 once again begs the age-old question: are men simply too emotional to be in positions of power?

Seen a lot of this kind of confusion. It's classic authoritarian consolidation of power. Put everything under state control and also dismantle the checks and balances of the state, putting its various organs in the hands of a small group of loyalists. They don't want it to run well that's the point.

wife: how was guarding the two paths today, honey? guard: [looking away] fine wife: did something happen? guard: [tearing up] no wife: would the other guard tell me something happened?

new Béla Fleck collab album BEATrio is great

this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

The whole 'Grok is a boer now' thing is very funny, but it also really exposes how every 'AI tool' isn't just passively biased from training data, but actively designed to shape your worldview according to the interests of the billionaires who made them.

You can learn a lot about a state's view of freedom of expression by how it treats @wikipedia.org. Maybe we could use a "Wikipedia Liberty Index." www.techpolicy.press/what-attacks... Today in @techpolicypress.bsky.social

The Parakeet — one of several polychrome woodblock copies made in ca. 1900 from works by Itō Jakuchū (1716–1800), a Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period notable for his striking modern aesthetic. More here: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/polychrome-woodblocks-of-ito-jakuchu-birds

Generative AI has helped me to understand why, in Star Wars, the droids seem to have personalities but are generally bad at whatever they're supposed to be programmed to do, and everyone is tired of their shit and constantly tells them to shut up

Removing a black 4-star general at Secretary of Defense and replacing him with a white talk-show is the perfect example why DEI is essential. It's not about hiring unqualified minorities, it’s about foiling the majority's habit of hooking up under qualified mediocrities of their own caste.

a small Texas county found a way to make money off migrants: arrest them for trespassing, make them post bail to get out of jail, turn them over to ICE, collect forfeited bail money. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/u...

she's a 10 but she emits hydrogen cyanide when you touch her

Please highlight this story. ICE stormed into the wrong house, trashed the place, and made women/girls stand outside in the rain in their underwear. ICE also stole phones, laptops, and cash savings from the family, who moved to OKC two weeks ago. kfor.com/news/local/w...

they know there's going to be an apocalypse for trucking jobs due to tariffs so they're trying to stem the political damage by making it so the layoffs disproportionately affect non-english speaking truckers

the fascist Trump admin is coming after Wikipedia now. the letter reads like a crowd-sourced listicle.

For years, YouTube didn't disclose how many videos it hosted. That fundamental-but-missing figure about one of the most important parts of our digital communication infrastructure is what launched our big @idpiumass.bsky.social YouTube project. But now there's an official number(ish)! [1/7]

Norwegian crispbread, extra sharp cheddar, South Indian mango pickle

gross. Palantir is pure fascists tech. collaborators get zero benefit of the doubt.

SORRY. Sorry. Have we seen this *incredible* news video coming out of Queensland? Wait for the witness/witnesses statement

i don't see why they're blaming this on me www.thestranger.com/news/2025/04...

“Harsono said he believes his past participation in social justice protests after George Floyd’s killing in 2020 may also have been a factor. […] Harsono said he protested because growing up, he had been inspired by the American ideal of freedom of speech.”

Ordinary people can help to isolate the gulag regime. Plenty of other countries export good coffee, for starters

10/10 tattoo idea right here

ICE wants to deport a BYU PhD student for the crime of organizing a church fishing trip 6 years ago, where he himself did not fish but the other attendees caught too many. How is this reality???

Pretty much everything this guy does that isn’t currently a crime needs to become a crime

abolish borders

The student paper at the college at which I teach reports a "tsunami of takedown requests" from international students terrified of being targeted for innocuous, legitimate op-eds & opinions.. Many ask in person--leave no trace in writing. Reminds me of my father's account of studying in the USSR.

important context about the concentration camps in el salvador:

some things that have brought me some joy recently: Woody Guthrie recordings, Roopa Panesar's sitar playing, Zakir Hussain's tabla playing, and existence of this instrument

my family put everything into double basses and i don't think we can get any lower

Every day we learn anew just how much classified ads were perhaps the load-bearing pillar of American hegemony

🚨UPDATE: Rümeysa Öztürk has now suffered three separate asthma attacks while in DHS custody. She has not received her required asthma medications—a violation of her fundamental right to medical care. This is cruelty, it is neglect, and it is a damning moral and legal failure.

Trump's 3/27 executive order targets the Smithsonian for advancing "the view that race is not a biological reality but a social construct." Trump argues that the exhibit's statement, below, is unscientific. He's wrong. As a biology professor and population geneticist, I agree with every word of it.
