The generation, as a whole, was never as progressive as the culture around them seemed. Yuppies were the dominant group. The “alt” culture was a reaction against it. And even for that “alt” group, the right just got good at turning The Man into “elitist liberal” culture that scolded you.

Something I strongly recommend everyone does for a lot of reasons is watch the making-of stuff on the SOCIAL NETWORK disc, which has footage of Fincher going interrogating the script quite literally line by line. It’s really compelling and indicative of why Sorkin’s directed features don’t stand up.
