Summer 1954 We shove off the beach, the old man cranks the Seahorse 3 saying the magic words that start it. We chug out to the bass reefs. I cut the engine, drop anchor, he lights a Lucky, draws deep, happy knowing I can bring him home if he dies on the water, with fish if we’re lucky.
