Confirmed. He also owns Dan’s mountain place near our spot. I’ll sign the waiver, Ted. We can wrangle in your backyard too.

These rich people are gonna get a rude awakening when 100 of us hike that mountain in 8 years without warning.

It doesn’t hit too hard often, he had a good run; longer than expected by a decade. He didn’t make it to the last Annie ticket game I had planned out, a moment where he could see where I was and how my life was finally so good. Days like today it hits.

While he was the reason we got to go when I was small, I became the reason he got to go as I became an adult. It was a proud moment to take him to the playoffs at no cost to him. Glove still in hand, we moved to the loge because it was a good view and not as hot.

Life changed a bit and the days of Annie oaklies died down for a few years. The team was terrible anyway and we didn’t want to give them the time of day during the aughts. It was no fun to go to watch them lose every game.

Later in life we moved to the third base side family section, games were still free and the seats were just as good. It was just nice to be at the game. I learned how to keep score. There was always a glove ready to catch the non-existent foul ball flying our way.

The ‘89 season we were at the game as much as we could be. That Bo “Drink Milk” poster hung on my bedroom wall and I had a new hero. His legs? Way bigger than Jose’s even with Canseco’s steroid use. I had no capacity to understand my seat wasn’t normal for everyone.

Those games I remember hearing about what traitors the A’s were. They were bad guys. I learned it took, “99 foul balls,” before the guy got to go to base. Dad bullshit answers to me asking questions about how the game worked. He would remind me through adulthood that I wanted to be Willie Wilson.

As a young person, I got to go to the game a lot. Front row on the first base side right next to the batter’s circle a lot. When the A’s came to town I remember them being HUGE. McGuire and notably Canseco. Jose’s legs were bigger around than I was.

At least it lets me turn my camera on. At least it doesn’t keep every chat that some person typed in 100 days ago that never goes away?
