I want to tell you a story. In 2015, I was in the small Lithuanian city of Panevežys, standing with the locals, watching a military parade. But this was no ordinary parade, because marching alongside the Lithuanian troops were our American allies.🧵1/17

A former Soviet intelligence officer alleges Trump was recruited by the KGB in 1987 and given the codename “Krasnov.” Alnur Mussayev served in the 6th Directorate, responsible for counter-intelligence support in the economy. One key objective was “recruiting businessmen from capitalist countries.”

Da pazzi

Republican Senators who voted for RFK Jr. have the best healthcare in the world, paid for by you. They don’t care about what’s going to happen to your kids, your parents, or you.

Il problema sono le garanzie di sicurezza. Quanto è affidabile il re degli USA e la sua corte di yesmen razzisti, ignoranti e sociopatici?

Standing up to the authoritarian wave requires more than cheerleading for democracy; it demands making democratic societies more participatory, responsive, and adaptable at all levels, from local to national, in response to the societal shifts driven by the Internet over the past 15 years.

Today's front page of The New York Post.

83% (!!!) of Americans oppose Trump pardoning violent Jan. 6 rioters, according to a new WaPo/Ipsos poll.

The National Science Foundation fired all its experts. The National Science Foundation. Fired. All of its. Experts. And they weren't even told to! The leadership worked toward the Fuhrer and went beyond the cuts demanded of them in anticipation of many, many more firings—up to *half* its staff.

Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia has published a letter sent to him by Trump’s Department of Justice threatening to potentially prosecute him for criticizing Elon Musk.

Three years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a hundred miles from Moscow we ask Russians about three years of war and whether they believe Donald Trump will help to end it. Producer @bentavener.bsky.social

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

🇺🇸👀 Trump's approval rating has fallen in recent days as more Americans are concerned about the direction of the U.S. economy as the new leader threatens to impose tariffs on many countries, — Reuters/Ipsos poll

If Elon Musk advocates for "free speech absolutism", why is X blocking all links to my website and flagging old links as 'malware'? Concerning.

Elon Musk is an idiot on an almost inconceivable scale. He had his high-school toadies pull a random list from a database he doesn’t understand, and on that basis alone decided that 60 MILLION SOCIAL SECURITY ENROLLEES, out of 72 million total, are fraudulent. 83% fraudulent!

Nothing to see here

On Friday night, HHS ordered CDC to take down all flu vaccine campaign materials from its website. Materials are starting to come down. For example, a campaign explaining that flu shot can reduce flu severity from "wild to mild" is now offline. Left image is from Friday, right is now Meanwhile...

It even surprises me how these people fit so neatly into my model of information disorder, distrust that's radicalised by online communities that reinforce that sense of distrust.

Neo-Nazi terrorist and convicted mass murderer Anders Breivik, who killed 77 people in Norway in 2011, cited this same Napoleon quote in his manifesto.

For a sense of mood: I was told today by one person - albeit second hand - that Trump admin threatened Canada with revisions to the border & expulsion from Five Eyes. Canada said to have threatened retal on energy front. (Despite that, Gabbard seems to have impressed in Munich).

Wow. Trump has fired the federal Veterans Affairs staff running the Veterans Crisis Hotline. This will have a major impact here in North Carolina.

If you can’t see the direction in which he’s going it’s because you’re choosing not to.

I struggle to express just how *weird* Vance’s #MSC2025 speech was. This is a transatlantic security conference, happening while there is a war in Europe, and the US is announcing a partial withdrawal from European security. And the US VP speaks about (alleged) threats to free speech in Europe??

Q: “When Elon Musk met with Prime Minister Modi, did he do so as a CEO, or as a representative of 🇺🇸?” TRUMP: “I don’t know. I’ll ask him.” 🤷🏼‍♂️

JD Vance has expressed a “deep hostility to the entire academic enterprise, not just the so-called woke parts,” writes @michellegoldberg.bsky.social. "He wasn’t talking about making more room for right-wing ideas in universities or even dreaming of taking them over. He wanted to destroy it all."

Btw, the media isnt reporting it, because it prefers endless stories of cracking Ukrainian morale and Russian steamroller assaults, but the Russian military has really struggled lately and their assaults are hardly advancing. www.ukrinform.net/rubric-ato/3...

WATCH: “White South Africans are 7% of the population and control 70% of the land… The only thing bothering them is white fear in the face of black aspirations.” Trevor Ngwane on misinfo from Trump & Musk as they cut off aid to South Africa Full: www.instagram.com/reel/DF5ZW8T...

I really don't understand the ambiguity here. Trump deputized the richest man on the planet to unilaterally cut off congressionally-funded and congressionally-authorized agencies. A power which neither of them can wield legitimately. That was the beginning of the constitutional crisis right there.

“It's fucking racist,” one active-duty Army general told @stevenbeynon.bsky.social on the condition of anonymity to avoid retaliation. “For the Army now, it's 'Blacks need not apply,’ and it breaks my heart."

This exchange is going to slip by and go undercovered but this is a very revealing moment. Trump’s government won’t study anything, they will just tell us everything is going great no matter who gets hurt. ‘1984’ is upon us.

Encyclopædia Britannica will continue to use ‘Gulf of Mexico’ for a few reasons: -We serve an international audience, a majority of which is outside the U.S. -The Gulf of Mexico is an international body of water, and the U.S.’s authority to rename it is ambiguous. 🧵⬇️
