Halifax shelter workers organize rally to protest delays in union certification www.halifaxexaminer.ca/labour/halif...

Beyond the fact that Police Associations and Police Unions should remain apolitical, one has to consider the optics of actively endorsing someone who is under criminal investigation.

Canada needs a similar poster

This data tells us that being a homeless woman on the street in Toronto is a short, violent life. Homeless women face especial trauma in the form of sexual violence and exploitation, which is often mitigated through drugs. There is a massive service gap for these women and they're dying as a result.

Saltwire in Atlantic Canada is owned by Postmedia. Boycott them. Get your news on PEI from CBC. And if you’re desperate from MacNeill. At least they’re Canadian. Don’t support American Media. #cdnpoli #peipoli #pei

At the press conference outside of the USAID headquarters, Rep. Ilhan Omar: "What Trump and Elon and all of their cronies are trying to do is take away the constitutional power of Congress. We get to decide. We have the power of the purse. We get to decide where money is allocated." Bingo.

enduring another onslaught of appeals to "buy local" and "shop Canadian/Indigenous" & am begging everyone to consider other ways to support their local communities and economies besides consumerism! use your imagination!!

Before we had safe consumption sites in Toronto, I was reversing overdoses in the daytime drop-in centre where I worked. Drop-ins will once again become our de facto SCS. Today, I asked the Budget Subcommittee to increase funding for both harm reduction staff in drop-ins and grief and loss supports.

We'll get details of our January Members Meeting up soon, but wanted to give everyone a "heads up" that we're switching our meeting days to the last Tuesday of every second month. This means our January meeting will be on Tuesday, January 28, at 5:30pm – still virtual.

Why the push to privatize public services? Look at the top CEO on this list: he comes from a garbage company. Privatization is a mass cash transfer of public services to the private sector to create an elite class of untouchable rich men. Who thought you could make money off of the garbage?

everyone involved in city-building, public transit & active transportation, accessibility, planning, housing, public health, social policy, poverty, equity, public space, or civic governance - if you care about cities in canada, read this look where things are going.

Racism in the Edmonton police starts at the top. Is anyone surprised?

Great news! The City of Orillia has passed their motion to oppose the use of the Notwithstanding Clause to clear encampments. Thank you Councillors Janet-Lynne Durnford and Jay Fallis for your support for the Canadian constitution, human rights, and real solutions to the homelessness crisis.

“Tech billionaires don’t have a great track record when it comes to fixing our transportation system — but we keep giving them 2nd chances. Instead, tech companies have kept us trapped in our cars by distracting us from investments in improved transit & other transport options.” — @parismarx.com

Again, we may well discover that NYPD is not good at solving murders.

In case it wasn't blisteringly clear, "common sense" in the mouths of Conservative pundits and leaders has nothing to do with sound practical judgment; it's a coded command to accept whatever they say without any critical thinking. They're telling you to stay foolish.

Tonight we hold a “Not So Silent” vigil. Come see Lynn Gallant speak about the ways this province has failed to do what is needed to protect women against gender-based violence. We are tired of platitudes. #nspoli www.thecoast.ca/news-opinion...

In NS, in under 3 weeks, 3 women were killed by their intimate partner this fall. while members of gov said IPV wasn’t an epidemic. IPV is an epidemic. the housing crisis lends to it. People are staying in unsafe situations because they have no where else to go. Housing is violence prevention

My latest video take: the Premier is threatening to dismantle and criminalize encampments, but ultimately this is all abut masking his failure to build housing. Watch: www.instagram.com/p/DDNyHcXi7O2/

This is tricky of the Ford government. They don't need to put the Notwithstanding Clause on the table; his government is making new funding for shelters contingent on evicting encampments. This is his workaround for the 2023 Waterloo ruling prohibiting eviction without adequate access to shelter.
