neon genesis evangelion is one of the most important and influential mecha series ever made. it’s stark compositions combined the mythical and introspective, remixing tomino and ishikawa for the emptiness of the lost generation. it is not better than tenchi universe, which aired the same year

But the Beyond The Time/RX-78 double whammy hit me like a Funko. First time I've even remotely agreed with people re: franchise stuff in GQuuuuuuX

My opinion so far has been that there has not been single "reference" that hasn't been either completely reasonable considering its status as a pseudo-sequel, unobtrusive, or a sensible part of the narrative/themes/etc. Like, is it a "gratuitous reference" that Hayato is in Zeta?

I will however freely admit that this is the first time where the "remember this thing from Gundam" has felt actually legitimately gratuitous to me. So far I have been a strong defender of 0079 stuff being in the *checks notes* AU sequel to 0079 but like cmon zero theming here just tossing CCA in

"There are no bad opinions" is intellectual cowardice, but I do wish the workings of our minds were more conducive to exploring them with each other without a. saying the most insane shit or b. reactively forming a contrary opinion so opposed it becomes nonsensical

We should just go back to the agora so if I have to hear someone's dogshit opinion at least the debate is constrained by the threat of violence

I love seeing people discussing robot anime. Conversely, I now have to see people discussing robot anime. The dichotomy we all live in.

The only exception to this recently has been Nightreign, which seems to have gotten away with it by having a narrative skeleton that lets you "finish" it.

Almost infuriating to see "unlocking things" referred to as "the trappings of live-service." The only thing worse than the enshittening of multiplayer has been the press' absolute submission to it. Outlets unable to even conceive of a game that is simply a game you play with other people.

"Ridley can you please make another Alien movie"
"okay I'm not going to call it Alien and it's going to be the first in a trilogy that will only get two movies about how Man must be punished for his hubris in searching for God for to find God is to become God and Man's works can only destroy"
"uh?"
