once again, this is segregation with tweaked branding. www.washingtonpost.com/entertainmen...

No, c'mon

by @rbhubbell.bsky.social 1/2 "Current & former federal workers are distressed, fearing for their jobs, mortgages, children, aging parents, & savings. Trump mocks them. What an *******. Federal workers are the government, & 'Government is simply the name we give to things we choose to do together'

Dear DOGE: In response to the request for my 5 things I did, I: 1) Learned how to make videos on AI 2) Created a creepy video of Trump and Musk 3) Uploaded the video to TV screens at HUD 4) Gave the day off to our A/V staff 5) Hit 'play' button on Monday morning Yours truly, Loyal HUD worker

A voice for the ages. A commitment through her art to the cause of her people. A defining presence. I have loved Roberta Flack for as long as I can remember. An educator, a towering artist, a proud black woman. She was the music of my youth and pointed the way to a spiritual maturity.

In 2020, the military was adamant about refusing to get involved in the election. That's why Trump hates General Mark Milley so much. Now, Trump is transforming the military into one that will back him up in 2029. We need to figure out how to prepare for that eventuality.

This is what I'm talking about!

One of the many things I fear is the compromising of the military.

For those unfamiliar, General Charles Brown, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, is Black. Admiral Lisa Franchetti, the Chief of Naval Operations, is a woman.

I hadn't seen this yesterday, Elon Musk saying two lawyers were "undermining civilization" which "seems like a generational trauma transfer issue." What a strange insult. Does he know their parents or something? Ah, I see: they're both Jewish. It's Musk being a Nazi. Again.

"One shouldn’t be surprised, at this point, to see Trump bend over backwards for Putin. But surely all those hawkish Republicans on the Hill would be moved to speak out in protest? Surely you jest." Today's Morning Shots from @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social and @eggerdc.bsky.social:

Another truth bomb from @hcrichardson.bsky.social ! heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/february-1...

It seems to me that if Musk has proof that millions of social security checks have gone out illegally to dead people, he should be presenting that evidence in front of a grand jury under oath tomorrow instead of shitposting it on social media. When can we do this under oath?

Could someone out there write a definitive guide on convenient alternatives to using Amazon.com for goods and books and whatnot? Asking for some folks who don’t want to see democracy die in darkness.

With the prologue stage of the Trump administration wrapping up, Trump’s "laws do not constrain the People’s Emperor" post feels like a thesis statement for what comes next. It's just getting started. Today's Morning Shots from @billkristolbulwark.bsky.social and @eggerdc.bsky.social:

The flying public needs answers. How many FAA personnel were just fired? What positions? And why?

Here is another must-read by @hcrichardson.bsky.social . As a sometime writer of dystopian fiction ( #silo ) I don't think I could have imagined the plot unfolding now as we speak. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/february-1...

Musk fires hundreds of FAA workers www.cnn.com/2025/02/16/p...

This is probably the most accurate take.

Government’s wins are often invisible: Systems that avoid plane crashes; alliances that avert war; surveillance that prevent pandemics. Government wins are often *the avoidance of loss.* So how do we tell the story of the destruction of government? The story of future losses *not* averted?

@stevenmazie.bsky.social rightly calls this op-ed shoddy and pernicious. It’s a tortured effort to read birthright citizenship out of the 14th Amendment, obviously designed to put Trumpism above the U.S. Constitution.

I need people to play attention to this 👇 and to what I said on Thursday www.marketplace.org/2025/02/13/t... The destruction of politics is coming for the economy

Painful but necessary.

Portuguese editorial cartoonist Zez Vaz reaches back to Tiananmen Square to call on American defiance.

the single most un-american and anti-constitutional statement ever uttered by an american president

we are getting a national version of red state governance, where the people in charge do everything they can to impoverish the state under the view that the more wretched things get, the easier it is for them to stay in power

Folks: I am NOT affiliated with the group that is using my name to support an economic boycott. Please spread this post, if you would.

@pkrugman.bsky.social was spot on with his analysis today! paulkrugman.substack.com/p/elon-musk-...

Happy Day Of In (other words removed per executive order)

You don’t say…

Thank you, Trump voters.

Oh, I missed this: The Pope *directly refutes* JD Vance here: "The true ordo amoris that must be promoted is that which we discover by meditating constantly on the parable of the “Good Samaritan” … that is, by meditating on the love that builds a fraternity open to all, without exception."

This is my number one fear. When you take away the power of citizens to choose who they want to govern, then we are right back to where this country was prior to our hard fought battle against tyranny.

"Like most aspiring autocrats, [Trump] fears democratic institutions because they threaten to place restraints on him. And for him and his movement nothing is more concerning than free and fair elections."

You don’t say…

Project 2025 was unpopular because of things like the plan for Trump to shut down the CFPB, which helps you get your money back if a bank cheats you.

is the goal merit or is the goal segregation?

This... We're in such deep trouble...
