ℹ️ℹ️ℹ️ The biggest design mistake early #gamedev makes... Designers are often proud of what they made, and the easiest trap to fall into is "I don't want a player to miss this". Early player journey is often flooded w/ noise, only show the best parts early on. Breadcrumb the rest solo devs.

I don't know about the rest of #gamedev... but I LOVE kitbash WIP stuff as a level designer who started in UGC like Halo Forge, we only had premade assets. My solo dev journey has taken me down the route of UI. I've made both a hotbar and a radial menu for my farming game. I'm going to pretend it is still #ScreenshotSaturday for #gamedev visibility purposes lol But I'm learning a lot about Unreal Engine's UMG for UI. πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

✨✨✨ No matter what platform gets you into #gamedev, you should not be ashamed. Twine, RPG Maker, RPG in a Box, Halo Forge, Fortnite Creative, UEFN, Roblox, Scratch, Game Maker, etc. Being a solo dev is hard. Your ideas can always be remade in more powerful engines. Just finish it πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

This includes not being afraid to use asset packs as a solo dev. A game is more than your assets. And you can always upgrade your assets later. πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’– Don't let bullies in #gamedev gatekeep you from finishing YOUR game. Do what you gotta do. 😎😎😎

Yes you should give people credit in #gamedev. But if you are using assets that someone has placed on a store, you can absolutely still call yourself a solo dev. They didn't make assets for YOUR game, they made a resource for others. And solo dev is an individual leveraging existing resources.
