Kansas City faces a choice: end free bus fares or cut service massively. www.kcur.org/news/2025-03...

Yes. I agree, I often compare the Iranian regime to the dying communist regimes of the 1980s. BUT... West Germany wasn't flying air raids on East Berlin. Communism, withered away and died, it failed on its own terms. Thereby discrediting it without there being any excuses for the regimes.

This aint happening

I feel for the folks who are getting obliterated on here for experimenting with AI things at their small non profit. The people who feel powerless/anxious in the face of Silicon Valley’s imposition of AI hype into all of our lives seem pretty excited to find a nice soft target to bully.

"Iran has limited options to respond.... The danger, however, is that Israel has opened a Pandora’s box: the worst Iranian response might also be the most likely—a decision to withdraw from its arms control commitments and build nuclear weapons in earnest." www.foreignaffairs.com/israel/real-...

IMO: I need to start working through edits today, but Jarrett's right that the costs of free buses far outweigh the benefits; and I think the advocates are really overly optimistic about said benefits.

A leading candidate for New York City mayor wants free local bus fares. But studies have repeatedly shown that any money you spent on that would be more productively spent on better service. 1/ www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...

An activist thinks my concern about free bus fares is evidence that I’m trapped in a “consultant’s mindset.” Busy day for me, so for now I’ll just leave this here in case anyone wants to either defend or pile on.
