an important aspect of this, is to look for reference OUTSIDE of the media you're working in I a lot of game devs are bad with this! Find inspiration in books, painting, movies, real life experience, theater, music, etc.... but game as ref. should be the last!

I really need to make a trailer... Anyway, I just spent 2 days breaking the game + rewriting the game's core movement logic, so that an edge case that might accidentally show up once or twice in the game will make slightly more sense.

Heeellloow! I'm finally here from the bird app. Where are all my #DreamsPS4 and @mediamolecule.bsky.social people at?!

👍

My favorite thing about designing an open hub for this game is hiding weird little shortcuts like this to connect everything up :) #indiegame #puzzle #gamedev

Native Linux was next; still a bug or two I need to fix, but otherwise this means it will probably run on Steam Deck :)

There's a reason people come up with so many good ideas in the shower

We're excited to announce that the Cerebral Puzzle Showcase will be returning this summer! 📅 May 29th - June 5th If you have a #puzzlegame you'd like to be considered, please submit it directly here: www.cerebralpuzzleshowcase.com?2025 The deadline for submissions is 23:59 Mar 31.

I'm sorry but trying to analyze the breadth of the video games industry by looking at total playtime data is kind of like trying to diagnose the restaurant business by looking at total calories consumed

It runs on mac now

—Things Heard At AGDQ 2025— it's that time again!! keep an eye on this thread (technology permitting) as I post my favorite out-of-context sentence fragments overheard from Games Done Quick hosts, runners and commentators! #AGDQ2025

One thing David Lynch once said is ‘the first ten minutes of your film should tell the audience how much attention to pay to your film’ and I think about that all the time with regard to my work in games. I often adjust the first part last to temper the attention demand I expect

Every year on twitter, I'd set some new years goals, and go over how I did with my previous year's goals. So I guess I'll continue the tradition here. My 2024 goals were: - Sub-1:10 sprint mode in Tetris Effect - Go for regular walks/exercise - Get my side project playable start to finish

This really is the best gift you can give indies. Positive reviews. If you have questions/issues use the forums not reviews.

Oh right, it's Steam winter sale time. Sensorium (small, open-world first-person puzzle game I made a little while ago) is 75% off! store.steampowered.com/app/1307870/... It has a higher average rating than The Witness on backloggd so that means it's definitely better and you should buy it

Normally I hop in a vc and make fun of the game awards with other snarky gamer friends but I actually genuinely enjoyed it this year. Props for addressing last year's complaints ("please wrap it up" roasts and layoff acknowledgements), and some genuinely good announcements.

Thanks anyone who might have stopped by yesterday! I finished this cool difficult level early on in the stream, and then sketched out two or three others (but those ones aren't as good... need to put more thought into them at some point). Current puzzle count is 129.

Doing some puzzle design on stream for a bit! #indiegame #puzzle #gamedev www.twitch.tv/rbdjellyfish

How do you all post clips of your games? I usually use OBS to record something, trim the footage after the fact, then upload, but there's just enough friction in the process to demotivate me and not bother. Are there any options that don't break flow so much/require less clicks? #indiedev #gamedev

"Porting the game I #MadeInDreams in about 3 months to PC sounds like a fun side project." "Let me just use a custom engine, add new mechanics, completely rewrite the story, and make 150 levels instead of 27."
