I just got a Linux laptop and here is my first attempt at processing a Sony RAW file using Linux photo apps: 1) Darktable: for RAW-to-TIFF file conversion, and 2) GIMP: for brightness and contrast operations. Note: the vertical shaded area on right is the shadow of a tree. #photography #yosemite

Happy Earth Day! Yesterday, in Yosemite Valley... Spring has Sprung! I'm grateful for the refuge this place provides. #yosemite #photography #waterfalls #springtime

Here's a quickie handheld phone cross-eyes #3D stereo pair I took yesterday of a flower bed. Cross your eyes to merge and see in 3D. I'm having problems with my right eye so there may be some slight image alignment/rotational problems which I can't detect. #photography #stereopair

Here's a photo I took a couple of days ago overlooking Lake McClure from Hwy 132 in the central California foothills. Unfortunately, the ground was a bit too steep to get closer to the wildflowers. Thanks for looking. Sony a7r5, Zeiss Batis 18mm prime at f/6.3. #photography 📷

It’s almost time for wildflowers 🌻😀 #landscapephotography

If you teach Physics and haven't seen this trove of resources shared by a retired teacher, you are in for a treat! #ITeachPhysics 🎢 sites.google.com/view/sgt-phy...

While staring at the wall at 6 am this morning waiting for my coffee to cool, I realized that someday it will be possible to bake spherical loaves of sourdough bread in a zero-G environment:)

Here is a 400 mm (15.75") dia Carl Zeiss reflecting telescope from a ~1905 catalog I got when I was a kid of astro equipment from small telescopes to observatory size instruments and also accessories such as filar micrometers. This was installed at the Observatory of Innsbruck (Austria). #astronomy

Here's a post-sunset Dec-2024 view I took from Pismo Beach, CA looking toward Avila Beach in the distance. #centralcaliforniacoast #photography #oceanphotography

The censorship algorithm on Twitter reduced our audience by roughly 95%, and seriously, who does that to a wildlife biology & advocacy group ? So we moved 😇 over here to BlueSky If you could, please help us regain our following Follow Retweet and Repeat ;-) Together we can change the world.

Hey bluesky! Do you want to develop your own open-source software in Python? Apply to attend Code/Astro! Website: semaphorep.github.io/codeastro/ Scroll all the way down for the application link. :) Apps are due Feb 1! (1/2)

My first ever attempt at photographing a Vandenberg launch 12/28. This is (5) 30-second exposures stacked in Photoshop because I couldn't figure out how to tell my Sony a7r5 to use the bulb timer:( Zeiss 18mm Batis. Taken from Shell Beach, CA. #rocketlaunch #Vandenberg #photography 📷

The Geminids Meteor Shower is arguably the best of the year. This image was captured in Portal Arizona in 2017. Perfectly clear, no moon, meteors all night. This is a composite of the brightest ones. The #Geminids peak this year in one week on December 12/13 #astrophotography

Visited the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, AZ last night and got to observe Saturn through the Clark 24” refractor. It was the best Earth-based view of Saturn I will ever see. What an amazing place to visit. 🔭

Jupiter with improved seeing now the planet is higher. C9.25 🔭, and ASI585MC. Europa and Io to the left of the planet and Ganymede to the right. #astrophotography
