someone less angry than I currently am needs to reply to the comments on the financial times article, where Americans wonder WHY Canada being absorbed into the US has never come up before, which is a fun piece of historical forgetting.

It’s pretty easy to “apply” for a PhD in Canada, and a little different from most US places, just send a cover letter, CV and undergrad transcript to a PI you’d like to work with. Put some effort into it, make sure you convey what you’re applying for and why.

We voted! 1. It was the first time youngest kid voted and she was very nervous but it was fine. 2. It sounded like everyone at the voting place has the plague. 3. Middle kid: ""I checked off all of the boxes. I'm supportive and think they all put in a good effort."

This is disappointing - an American facebook shopping group I was in removed posts asking for Canadian sources because of the American threats, following up with a "We're progressive!" post. Not being willing to acknowledge the harm your country is causing is "progressive", alright.

Here is a ghost story, of sorts. My mom had this very old lady friend, impossibly old, and she lived in this wacky old house - all porches with decaying steps leading to fading paths into the bush, every room inside painted different shades of pink - and one time I visited her.

I love the outpouring of love for David Lynch. I don't love how many of the people who are remembering him have stopped masking in public. If you've stopped masking, you're why he had to choose to spend his final years isolated at home. I don't know what to do with that anger.
