Today’s #fullimmersion in #RapidCreek served a dual purpose: 1) getting in my April plunge; 2) washing my hair because our holding tank is full (on a Saturday of course)

This seems right, and all of this is WRONG.

IRT dealing w/ agencies & institutions to provide support for post-stroke auntie care: Such an A/B sort of helpers & officious. Helpers are flexible, figure out ways to make it work. Maybe they can’t legally give info, but can give adjacent info or figure out secure path to send where needed. 🧵

Don’t mind me, just taking pictures of tree reflections in a puddle on my deck railing.

So many folks across so many institutions have been incredibly helpful with post-stroke auntie care & logistics. We have gotten things taken care of, so she can focus on healing. ❤️ And THEN I ran into SD Dept of Social Services. 🧵 1/8

Couple weeks ago, got my low tunnel set up (20” rebar stakes, 6’ pvc hoops, cut-to-length Agribon frc, landscape staples). Lettuce mix, arugula, radishes & turnips all happily growing & protected thru our 20-degree nights & 60-degree days. I’ll do a 2nd setup for cabbage & kale. #gardensky

Yes, I love to grow & purchase local food, but also I just had a lovely afternoon snack of aged Irish Cheddar on Finnish rye crackers & Trump’s tariffs are malicious idiocy.

Major error in order of flea-treating critters this morning. Corgi-boy HAS to go first, then Floof-Shepherd, then kitty (who doesn’t pay attention to dog stuff unless they’re freaked out). I did Floof first, and now Corgi-boy’s ready to run & cat’s hidden herself away.

Today's Headlines

So, of course, after two solid months of caregiving I have finally caught a bit of a break, and have promptly fallen ill with some awful bronchial crud. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’ll be fine. I can rest now. ❤️‍🩹

Booker finally yields after more than 25 hours of speaking 👏👏👏

Yesterday, the U of Minnesota deleted the American Indian Studies’ statement on Palestine. (Also deleted was a story about Leonard Peltier’s return home and five other dept statements on Palestine.) Our expertise matters if we don’t oppose genocide. web.archive.org/web/20250322...

Past couple days auntie care has felt like universe is schooling us. Stent procedure & (insurance mandated) too-soon rehab return: BIG aphasia, ripped out catheter, attacked aide she thought was violating her (he’s ok). Didn’t know who I was. 💔 Back to hospital further eval. MUCH better today. ❤️‍🩹

Climate risk tool. Taken down by tools. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Today we escaped to upper elevations to thin a timber stand & grab water samples. It was snowy, warm, trickling, glorious goodness. ❤️🌲🪵

Auntie care update: Have you ever held hands & looked into the eyes of someone you care deeply about, who is wild with physical pain, who can minimally see or hear, & tried to calmly explain the next painful thing they’ll experience which will ultimately bring them relief? Yesterday was rough ❤️‍🩹

Brilliant cold stratification technique for those native prairie forbs!

Post a warning

“This pizza needs more sauerkraut,” is a thing I just thought. #pizzajungle

After 11 days post-stroke auntycare, she’s stabilized enough (now in rehab) that I can take a day off. Why is institutional food STILL so terrible in so many places? Jerky-dry meat, cooked-to-mush veg. Unidentifiable gloop. We’ve cooked for 100s together. Feel like we need to take over kitchen.

A harbinger of spring…and of a scary fire season ahead. This one’s in our county but not close by. But, it was March just a couple years ago when we were evac’d 4 days…& just last fall we were under threat from a fire that got within a 1/2 mile. Prayers up for those affected & for our firefighters 🙌🏼

Feels like if voters knew about the “recessions are good, actually” and “your grandmother doesn’t really need her social security check” takes before things might have turned out differently

Today is World Water Day. Yesterday was International Day of Forests. Forests and water are intimately related. Trees require abundant water. Rivers that provide our water require forests. Today, let's thank our forests and our rivers. Tomorrow and every day, let's work to preserve them.
