Humans will destroy us. It’s all about the now, and the now is all about money - a social construct currently serving “the interests of the tiny, greedy minority in possession of private wealth” (see Ann Pettifor’s blog: blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandp...)

To keep fragile or small items protected, some of our material is stored in boxes like these. This tiny ‘Book of Nouns’ from 1800 may seem normal size on the shelf, but in reality it’s only 6cm tall! [C.C. 423 BOO]

‘The arts are vital, they are a space for critical dialogue, to make our creative human expression visible, a space to imagine new possibilities, explore complex ideas & express our personal, social, cultural & plural identities, to make sense of the world & make meaning #arts

Inherited wealth, quietly doing its thing, keeping the poor in their place. ‘The lifetime wealth of those with parents in the richest fifth will see their wealth grow by 29% – compared with 5% for those born to the poorest fifth.’

I can understand this. Although I’m fairly sure that Norwich did win the coveted title of worst place to live in the UK once, it’s defo not as bad as Peterborough.

The idea of eliminating the Federal Department of Education dates back to the Civil War. A short history. time.com/7225339/hist... #EduSky #sschat

This is a very good idea. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I've just placed my preorder. An interesting one for #ChatBiology I think.

For those irritated/bemused by the recent Apple Mail update, it turns out that you can get rid of those weird categories and superfluous icons (contact photos) attached to each message 👇👇👇

Beautifully written and utterly terrifying. “From the president down brazen kleptocracy is now one of the central organizing principles of this government with precious few other principles to speak of.” The USA will never be the same again.

AERA and COPAFS have issued a statement on the sudden termination of 169 contracts within IES, including those that NCES holds for the collection and reporting of education statistics. Read the full statement: www.aera.net/Newsroom/AER...

🚨Today, the Education Policy Institute, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, has published a new report on Identifying SEND. The report provides evidence of the inequalities that exist in SEND support across schools in England. Read the full report 👉 epi.org.uk/wp-content/u... Main findings👇

Primary pupils in areas where most schools are run by the local authority are 10 times more likely to receive an education, health and care plan than those in the most academised areas, @edupolicyinst.bsky.social research shows. Read the full story ⬇️

I am feeling very fortunate that I am looking at the USA from the outside in. The dismantling of central government infrastructure will make it very difficult to rebuild later = too costly. #EduSky #EducationalResearch Solidarity to those in the thick of it right now.

Looks great - thanks for the share! #Phenomenography #EducationalResearch

I remember reading this article by Mike Cameron in Schools Week in 2016. I thought he was right then, and I think he's right now. MATs need to hoover up schools to maintain the structures they have created. MATs are running out of dosh. It's not really that much of a surprise is it? 🎓 #EduSky

Tbf, the DfE have a point. Using the .gov link in the article, AI answered Thomas' Qs in 5 mins*, with a couple of prompts: I asked it to look elsewhere for the attendance champion info. *caveat: AI answers do need checking Maintained school? The LA/council will help. Got 💰? The Key is v. good. 🎓

Happy Superb Owl Sunday! Here I am with Zeus, a truly Superb Eurasian Eagle Owl.

Interesting preprint: "Folk Conceptions of #FreeWill " here 👇 Will have a read later. #Psychology #Philosophy

The way medical schools select their students actively disadvantages working class students. Every extra test, every requirement for work experience that needs contacts who are already doctors. It’s no surprise at all.

Wordle 1,327 2/6 🟩🟨🟨🟩🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 There’s an awful lot of this going on in the world right now #Wordle

I don't understand how this is better*. It reminds me of when everyone replaced levels with ... levels. Instead, 2 outcomes for each category: CC and Secure, with the justification for said judgements contained within the full report. *I can, however, see why some people might still want this.

How long have people been calling tweets on here bloots? I like bloots. ‘She just blooted it out’ sounds good to me. End of bloot.

Looks great! 🐞

This piece by Annette Montague is v. well argued. Is “school improvement too human to be codified”? I think so. Well worth a read 👀 #EduSky 🎓

A potentially interesting read here for #ChatBiology #biology* teachers and, it’s open access.

Often, it's worth taking the time to look back. Search DERA for Dr Adrian Elliott's RISE Review (2012): 1993: "Schools would be graded on a seven point scale from ‘excellent’ (1) to ‘very poor’ (7)." It provides a handy summary of the changes. #Ofsted #EduSky #UKEd

Out of curiosity, I read 'The Let Them Theory' the other day. Dire. Don't waste your time/money. Here, Tara Brabazon does an excellent job of explaining why this book is so problematic. I can already see the 'key messages' making their way* into schools and PD for teachers 🤢 *already there #EduSky

The power of cognitive dissonance writ large.
