Yup. I've not actually visited such countries but you don't even have to do that. The last book I read, Haing S. Ngor 'A Cambodian Odyssey,' among others including Snyder, Gessen, Fromm and so on will teach you everything you need to know and we are right on that pathway now.

I, white guy, took pride that I worked hard when I did construction work in DC years ago. Most of the guys I worked with were Latino's from Ecuador. Also some white and black local workers. The Latino's were paid less and ran circles around us. They were also super nice guys & taught me Spanish.
