Finally working on a novel I started dreaming up as a kid, but some things have aged weirdly. In highschool I added plot elements which were analogies for the US's abuse of power against civilians under W. Bush, but writing it two decades later while gestures at everything feels anticlimactic.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.
