the survey was also about TV and movies, not games

that's the thing that gets me. it's so obviously useless for solving any problem other than "we can't think of a way to make video generators useful for games, and management's not happy" when provided with a ton of gameplay videos, you can generate gameplay videos. literally useless

tons of training had to be done for the model to learn the behavior of the game from gameplay videos. but is it really the best use of resources for someone who has access to the actual game engine?

imagine if, instead of prompting it to generate a video of simulated players interacting with a jump pad, you could just open up the level designer, add the jump pad, and turn simulated players loose on it this feels like they were trying to find a use for video generation, not a way to help devs
comment in response to post
the thing that gets me is that plausibly simulating player behavior sounds legitimately very useful but instead they're focusing their attention mostly on generative video, which seems like a gigantic waste of resources for game devs who presumably have access to the design tools for their own game

To me, the avatar is fundamental to what vtubing is. It's not just a facecam substitute, it's part of the content in a different way, something that can be far more connected to on-screen events than an IRL face so what's important to me is that it's something that's easy to work with
comment in response to post
for me, it's "lets you do the content you love to make" but given that pretty much all my content is based on avatar interactivity, you could say the avatar itself is my content. my top priority is being able to pack it full of gimmicks and effects and interesting interactive possibilities

you can do a LOT by just swapping out the CSS

yeah, there's some crossover between the fandoms, and some shared terms & trends. but refusing to show your IRL face or introduce your IRL partner is not some unique idol thing. kayfabe isn't an idol thing. selling merch isn't a unique idol thing. parasocialdom isn't a unique idol thing
comment in response to post
idols aren't the only people who get stalked and harassed, and idols aren't the only people that internet viewers get super freakin' parasocial about plenty of big facecammers streamers have been targeted IRL. it's impossible to have a million+ fans and NOT have people getting parasocial
comment in response to post
things like "not showing your face" and "being open about having a partner" aren't specifically idol culture things plenty of people want to maintain a bit more distance between the internet and their IRL personal life, and gravitated towards vtubing specifically because of that

seems to be a newer tactic for domain squatters. instead of just setting up a blatant scam site on an expired domain, they use AI to create a fake site based on the original site, and hide the scam links deeper in the site probably to avoid tanking the site's search ranking
comment in response to post
yeah. either the site got hacked, or the domain expired and someone else swiped it and impersonated them the Blog section is actually just a bunch of ads for Eastern European online gambling sites

and it is well aware of how silly it is. sometimes the main character run into hulking musclebound badasses who just ooze coolness, and sometimes they run into a dude who's a giant walking blender or has a teacup for a head or something. and both are equally likely to be stone cold killers

ask them how they're cheating it

Folks keep forgetting that limitations, either technical or intentional, make for more creative art. 8 Bit Theater vs Megatokyo. 🤔

a better question is if i ever have a week where it DOESN'T feel like that
comment in response to post
yeah, rather than starting with a VRChat avatar as the base and cutting down to a simpler VSFAvatar from that, it might be better to go the other way around the performance limitations on a VRChat avatar are a lot tighter since they're expected to be in an instance w/ dozens of other VRchat avatars
