Never PP. Never 51st.

A strong statement on the need to stand up in dark times from my colleague @heathermcpherson.bsky.social. She has done the heavy lifting in parliament on Ukraine, Gaza and human rights. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

Judge finds RCMP violated Charter rights of Wet’suwet’en land defenders: entering & raiding without warrants and using extreme racism against Indigenous women. "I view the conduct as extremely serious involving racism directed towards Indigenous women" www.cbc.ca/news/indigen...

I am at the NATO meetings in Brussels. Trump and Putin are plunging the world into dark chaos. Here is my dispatch from day one of the meetings. I decided that it was time to go over the boards for Canada. Please read and share. substack.com/home/post/p-...

No one sold Canada out to foreign countries more than Conservatives: Sold INCO to Brazil Sold STELCO to USA Sold Alberta Gas Nexen To China Sold Wheatboard to Saudi Arabia Lying thieves and con men, Harper Poilievre sold Canadian assets and resources. Never CPC

“Rather than enforce their own more protective rules, provinces might have to accept weaker rules from others.”

In December 2022, Pierre Poilievre wrote in a National Post op-ed, “People struggling with addiction belong in treatment, not prison.” Last week, he unashamedly called for many of those same people to be imprisoned for life. Time for a #LogicCheck with @vancolour.bsky.social.

Weimar and the Superbowl - here's my latest reflection on how we got where we are and how we can get out of it. Fascism is on the move and we have to make clear choices to protect democracy and an inclusive society. substack.com/home/post/p-...

This isn’t about the border for Donald Trump. It's about our water and the critical minerals that Elon Musk needs. Donald Trump has threatened to use economic force to make us the 51st state. Canadians will never let that happen. No chance in hell.

We don't want US milk in Canada.

The planet is on fire. Trump and Pierre Poilievre will burn the planet so that corporations can make even more profits. We are witnessing a dismal example of bumper sticker slogans when young people are looking to their leaders to step up. Please watch this. www.youtube.com/watch?v=faZ_...

Trump is following an old Chinese proverb: “Kill the chicken to scare the monkeys.” @crof.bsky.social on how Canada can push back hard against Trump. 🐓

“What [Wilkinson] is proposing is effectively co-ownership of Canadian natural resources [by the US]. That should give us all pause for thought,” said @hadrianmk.bsky.social @policyalternatives.bsky.social #CanadaUSTradeWar #cdnecon #cdnpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2025/02/05/n...

Trump isn't just a threat to our economy he is threat to democracies everywhere. Under his reign, we can no longer trust the USA. Shop local, buy Canadian. The resistance starts at the grassroots. We have kick ass beer, kick ass coffee and kick ass people. www.villagereport.ca/village-pick...

Avi Lewis is taking his second go at being elected as an NDP MP. The Tyee caught up with the journalist, filmmaker and activist to talk tariffs, grocery and housing costs and whether voters even want to talk about climate.

Not that there's not enough going on in the world right now, but someone has started a fake BlueSky account where they just swapped the last letter of my last name - and took my profile photo and my last post. Please don't follow whoever they are! The real quilter/oceanographer is here!

"A recent @policyalternatives.bsky.social article provides an overview of how Canada’s different classes are doing... In short, if you’re in the bottom 60 per cent of Canadians, things are bad and they’re getting worse." @rromard.bsky.social #inequality www.standard-freeholder.com/opinion/work...

I think that Ontario starlink contract ought to stay ripped up

Les Canadiens ont gagné une pause pas victoire. Le boycott des produits américains doit se poursuivre. Soutenez le Canada. I am inspired by the solidarity of Canadians to fight the threats of Trump. But the fight is not over. Continue the boycott and support Canadian products. Vive le Canada

Look at the weasel words of Doug Ford. He is back in bed with Elon Musk. globalnews.ca/news/1099566...

The most interesting thing about Conservative Gavin Dew’s Vancouver Sun column on Trump’s tariffs is what isn’t there, notes Tyee senior editor Paul Willcocks. Dew blasts Premier Eby, but never criticizes Trump.

This is one of the non-tariff retaliation measures that I’m here for. Can’t wait to see what else we withhold from them.

Well done!

The tariffs being paused is good news for Canada and Canadian workers. It means standing up to Donald Trump’s threats is working. But his threats won’t stop. We need to make our economy less reliant on unreliable allies. We need to buy Canadian and build Canadian to create good jobs here.

He blinked. 2 days ago Donald demanded our nationhood as the price of peace. Then we hit with $125bil in counter tariffs and pulled American products off the shelf. So now he settles for a fentanyl czar. Canada shows the world how to stand up. But this is ain't over. Don't drop your guard.

I was at the bad place because Trudeau still doesn't have an account here. @liberalca.bsky.social please fix that. Today I officially deleted that X app permanently. I don't know why our government uses an app by someone trying to take down our government, economy and country.

Donald Trump has made it clear. This isn’t about the border. It’s not about a trade deficit. It’s about making Canada the 51st state. This is a threat to our sovereignty. Canadians will stand strong. We will not surrender our water, our health care, our values to Donald Trump.

While Liberal leadership candidates, including Mark Carney and Chrystia Freeland, are talking tough on Trump, they are quietly capitulating to Poilievre. That needs to end now, writes Christopher Holcroft.

They say that 1939 Britain stood alone against a despot. That's not true. Canadian kids were signing up in the thousands. We were there to defend British skies. Now Canada stands alone in the face of despotism.and there is crickets from our European allies. But we've got this. Canada. #strongasfuck

Well, it took a major trade war for the CBC to start running trans-positive news articles, but at least they're running them. Transphobia is a cornerstone of Trump's fascist agenda. Reject Trump, embrace our trans siblings.

The right move. www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...

Canadians are stepping up and supporting the Pledge for Canada. Please sign on. We will send a message to Trump and to any Canadian leader who would try and cut a deal to sell us out. Let's get past 20,000 sign ups today. True North Strong Free actionnetwork.org/petitions/pl...

Ordinary Albertans know the importance of holding the line in the face of Trump's threats. Danielle Smith and the Conservative MPs would trade Canada away for a bag of beans. But the people of Alberta? Not a chance. Canada #standonguardforthee #strongasfuck discoverairdrie.com/articles/sur...

If you can only share one of my posts, I hope you share the one below. It may seem flippant in how I wrote it, but given what might be about to happen next week, and the huge consequences for the people in at least two nations, it’s actually incredibly important.

Just another example of PP following in the foosteps of his hero to the south. Say NO to morons, facists, narcissists

MLA Jody Toor has repeatedly referred to herself as “Dr. Jody Toor” and worn a lab coat with “MD” embroidered on it. Toor is not registered to practise medicine in B.C. and The Tyee can find no evidence she holds an MD.

This is a no-brainer: a Granny who wants to volunteer at a school lunch program has to get a security clearance. And yet Pierre Poilievre who lives in a 19-room mansion funded by the taxpayer refuses or can't get a security clearance. Something stinks here. www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Research suggests public support for climate policy is detached from emissions and economic trends, and instead driven by imagining a thriving, clean economy. 🌱

We need to shut down any attempt by Elon Musk to monkey-wrench our election. We must defend Canada's democratic integrity. Please write to Elections Canada calling on them to shut down interference by Musk's interference in the X algorithm. Send message here: [email protected]
