Philips CD-i GA R2.1 Digital Video Cartridge (DVC) maintenance: On the right is a 605 variant (22ER9424 / 22SW1515) for authoring players. Two SMD capacitors are missing. On the left is a variant in a cage (22ER9141/00 AH00) for consumer players. It has errors in the ROM. 1/3

Philips CD-i service post (CDM9 edition): Eliminate the screaming noise of the CD drawer quickly and easily without removing the entire CD unit. 1/3. Pull the drawer all the way out and press the plastic spring in the direction of the arrow to remove it completely.

People put huge work into grinding down the CDi Timekeeper to access its battery, but for some models you can still get new replacements. See retrostuff.org/2021/12/31/n...

Update to the Back Up and Restore NVRAM Data With CD-i Link article: Completely rewritten article; added details on cables and troubleshooting for more player models. retrostuff.org/2020/04/03/b...

My Pico bunch: Sega Pico MK-49002-50 (EU), Yamaha Mixt Book Player Copera MMG-1, Sega Toys Pico HPC-0009, Advanced Pico Beena HPC-0700, Anpanman o Sagase! Beena (also HPC-0700, but in a BeenaLite case) and finally BeenaLite HPC-0757.

Random stuff from Japan: Yamaha Mixt Book Player Copera MMG-1 (a Sega Pico variant), a sun-tanned SegaSaturn HST-3210 (for parts) and old newspaper.

Soft Pop 231, a 1990 CD-BGM from Philips Background Music Systems. These include a CD-i menu with play controls.

I'm happy to share the first public preview release of my game SkyWays for CD-i. The main gameplay loop and physics are implemented. Still quite a ways to go! Feedback, bugs and issues are very much welcome! Video: youtu.be/rUFtyM0pLCE Project page with download: twburn.itch.io/skyways

I've just found a Philips VAM1201P in a CD-i player (660) for the first time. The FPC is more pink-grey than the usual orange of the VAM1201/03 (and others in the CDM12 family).

In 2022, I introduced the project DISCMASTER, which is a unique project to make the internals of tens of thousands of 1990s-2000s CD-ROMs findable in a semantic search. Today, I'm announcing the team has now made DISCMASTER 2, a ground-up rewrite with so much improvement. discmaster.textfiles.com

The third Nichicon CI-1PS (ZSKY114G) power supply, this time from the CDI-M1500 L, shows the same excessive signs of use as its siblings. But at least it looks the best so far. I will now completely disassemble and clean this PSU as well and hope that I can finally identify all the components.

I have published three new โ€˜WIP pagesโ€™ about the Nikkodo / BMB CD-I Auto Master Controller CDI-M1500. They contain all the work and research from last year (A and V units) as well as a first overview of the L unit, which arrived two weeks ago. (Links in the replies.)

Friday night CD-i maintenance (220/57): Fit the SmartWatch socket with an IC socket to make it easier to replace when it fails, 50/60 Hz mod (for debugging purposes only as it's pretty useless without an RGB mod) and grease the screaming wheel of the disc drawer.

Random stuff from Japan: BMB CD-I AUTO MASTER CONTROLLER CDI-M1500 (yes, this is the third one now - another variant) and some Pico/Copera games.
