Live by the backrank checkmate, die by the attempted backrank checkmate

It never occurred to me, do people born blind tend to know what exotic animals look like? I just never considered “what shape animals are” to be part of a curriculum.

Surely the last part of the tale is buying the platform to make everyone read his posts, then everyone leaves.

It’s probably just growing pains, people will adapt and screenshot instead of linking. That’ll reduce dogpiling with minimal impact on the user experience, which seems like an overall positive change.

This was me, but I made an exception for melted mozzarella; the texture and flavor became delicious when cooked

I hope you let us know how it is! I watched the Magicians tv show and liked it, curious about the books but my backlog was too high; I’d love to know if his other work is worth checking out.

The thing is, if they wait 6.5 minutes then make a move, if you aren’t paying attention you could time out instead. Just really obnoxious behaviour.
comment in response to post
This was the stuff I was thinking about in your “time stalling” poll. I don’t care if you’re a slow player, but if you only have one move available and you run out the clock, you’re a dick.
comment in response to post
Damn, I’m gonna miss hearing chess stories from someone my level when you’re Elo 2000
comment in response to post
Only time “move stalling” annoys me is when it’s done for a forced move. There’s literally no point not taking a forced move except to waste your opponent’s time.

My favourite chess memory was when some guy started accusing me of using a chess engine (we’re both 400 Elo???) so I checkmated him like this.

It was also cocaine.

He wrote Dreamcatcher about his experience with the film (the ass weasel represents Warner Bros)

I just read Shogun, and my favourite part is how the Japanese characters could not give less of a shit about how much these Christians hate these other Christians.

Kf7 is mate in 3: Kf7 : Kh7 Kf6 : Kh6 Kf5 : Kf5 Qh7#

Do you mean Qg7? I don’t think Black has mate in 1 here

Only thing better is when you offer a draw, they refuse and you win. Third best thing is check mating them after they’ve obviously lost, but they send a draw request anyway. No, I don’t want to draw when I’m up 10 points of material, I’ll checkmate you now thanks.

Did you ever see that video of Davey Wreden doing commentary over someone else’s let’s play of “the Beginner’s Guide”, but refusing to comment on the game, only on the let’s players? This reminds me of that. It looks like he’s deleted it since then, but it was really interesting.

I feel like that’s the natural end result of the way the musical softened the novel’s edges and the movie splitting the more explicitly political second act into it’s own movie.

Weregreymon is such a GOAT design

Digimon character design is probably its weakest element, but there are still some bangers

I don’t know if love and abuse can coexist, but the idea that love can be a motivation for evil totally does. Parents who cover up their children’s crimes are doing it out of love; the idea that their loved one’s happiness is paramount, and justice and morality must be sacrificed for it.

If complicity in genocide isn’t enough to lose your vote, doesn’t that make you a “vote blue no matter who” person in practice?
comment in response to post
As a politician seeking power, what motivation do you have to listen to someone after the words “vote blue no matter who” come out of their mouth? They’ve literally promised to vote for you.
comment in response to post
How are you demonstrating your vote is worth pandering to if your vote is guaranteed?

Again, I would be voting for Harris if I lived in the US, so that some Palestinian activists choose to is a good thing in my eyes, but the anger held by others at the Democrats as a political institution is reasonable for their widespread normalisation of Israel’s violence.
comment in response to post
She is complicit in the fact that she has not made any significant statement of intent to change the US government’s policy regarding Zionism or selling of weapons to Israel.
comment in response to post
I would be voting for Harris if I could, because I agree with you that doing so prevents worse outcomes. But I think the criticisms of the Biden/Harris administration response to the genocide of Gaza are substantial enough that people who are angry at them don't deserve to be talked down to this way

Yeah, the stakes in FP1 always feel apocalyptic; there’s a ticking clock on your city you have to race against. The sequel’s city doesn’t have a timeline. Your decisions also feel much less stark; you can actually make things relatively nice for people in the sequel.
comment in response to post
Even low difficulty feels very tense in FP1, imo. The sequel feels much less "dreadful" (I'm using that word to mean literally filled with dread, not bad)
comment in response to post
On the Edge makes me really excited for FP2's DLC; I want to see how they make trade and inter-city diplomacy work with the more advanced politics system of the sequel. The hints they've given about the next DLC imply they're going to include warfare?

Is it 200 for all elections, or do you get 200 for each type of election: senate, presidential, primary, etc? If I’m voting on what restaurant to go to with friends, do I have access to my presidential votes?

This actually sounds pretty fun as a game mechanic

And since we aren't counting 21CB in 2009 as an election year, that means the sample size is just 3, of which one is good and 2 are bad?
comment in response to post
Oh wait, "since Bush II". So, the sample size is just 08, 12, 16 and 20?
comment in response to post
Was 2004 considered a "Republican Upset"? Bush was incumbent.

If the argument is that you have to keep the flow of language to match the way Japanese text draws the eye around the page, then why is only the left/right disparity important? If Japanese is read vertically first, isn’t that, at least, if not more, important to the art than right to left?
comment in response to post
They use to flip it; all my copies of Ranma 1/2 when I was a kid were flipped.I don't have strong opinions about this, but it's funny seeing someone stumble into a localisation argument that's been considered settled for like 20 years. It's feels like hearing someone say "Sega does what Nintendon't"
comment in response to post
I mean, the logical conclusion of that argument is that all translated text should be written l i k e t h i s

You can start your own religion as a wandering character, but you won’t be able to make yourself the pope until you settle down and control a holy site.
