Nothing like a bit of autocracy in the morning to motivate curiosity about what has been lost - and gained - in the past 😏

I wonder if those of us in Massachusetts need to volunteer to be hosts to individuals visiting from abroad for both the marathon and upcoming graduations and reunions. Be the keeper of contact info, personal details, and act as escorts with our cameras & legal documents/contacts at the ready.

When I starting feeling hopeless, listening to @mayorwu.boston.gov defend Boston and its choice to be a sanctuary city, gives me life. We are strong, safe, and high-performing not in spite of immigration and diversity but BECAUSE of it. m.youtube.com/watch?v=xtBL...

So much this. Our failure to have compassion for political leaders navigating democracy (and its compromises) and to engage with it ourselves is a metastasizing cancer. 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼

When @steveinskeep.bsky.social sounds mocking, things are bad. From @hcrichardson.bsky.social’s daily letter. Because Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia is not safe, none of us are. American citizenship, along with our currency is quickly becoming worthless. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

I was lucky to spend yesterday evening with a small group of knowledge management, content, search, and AI experts enjoying drinks and dinner by a roaring fire pit. It was comforting knowing that there are still people thinking deeply about its implication, possibilities, and limits.

Thank you @rollingstone.com for saying clearly what we are clearly seeing with our own eyes.

Attention New Hampshire: The Republicans in charge of our plunging economy and the emerging dictatorship that used to be the United States of America no longer simply want people who disagree with them to move to Massachusetts. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/april-14-2...

I rarely see anything related to the work I do in the press but this data mess was the impetus for work I supported a number of years ago in creating an online community ecosystem for CMA members - they did not want data all over the place.

If you work in, study at, or an alumnus of a U.S. university, it is a good time to contact your school's leadership to insist on taking a stand against government overreach.

Maybe it’s time we are got burner phones?

Ouch

We are not wrong… ask me how I know.

Seriously GenX? Who even are you anymore? (Speaking as a GenXer)

The great thing about fighting back against this stuff is that if you end up losing anyway you get the same outcome you’d have gotten from complying but you don’t have to fucking hate yourself too.

Idaho. This is Idaho. Tonight.

Things that shouldn’t need to be said for $1,000

It’s not rocket science. I long for a constant stream of buses down 128, with stops that have lots of bike racks and some parking. Then we can replace lanes with light rail. And then presto… super easy to get into the city.

THIS is why elected officials must constantly and spectacularly fight. It’s why institutions must constantly and spectacularly fight. Without friction there is no conflict. With no conflict there is no “problem.” A constitutional crisis is invisible for most people until someone helps us FEEL it.

This is so cringe. I know there are many more important and impactful things going on, but this somehow seems to be a metaphor for our current timeline.

At least one US president cares to denounce this attack.

There we go. Support this man.

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

China really upping their trolling game since the tariffs.

The argument the Dept of Justice is making here is… not OK

Meanwhile in MA, retired state troopers are being tried for bribery for exchanging paving, a snowblower, and candy for drivers’ licenses per @wbur.org. It seems comical relative to kidnapping people and yet, it is because we have let too many little things slip. www.wbur.org/news/2024/01...

I really hope this wakes some corporate executives up; leadership and integrity matter. If this is just about profits and revenue growth, customer have choices - especially when you are selling what amounts to commodities. Integrity if part of the customer experience.

The U.S. century (more like 60-70 years) is over. There will be more nuclear states, more global instability, less economic growth, and more human rights abuses. We managed to self-immolate - all because we can’t stand the thought of making healthcare, food, and housing available to everyone.

This is a stupid question. Of course it will and especially now after Musk has taken a blow torch to federal agencies that issue documentation 🤬 Also: discriminatory & illegal, although that doesn’t seem to mean anything these days.

We will save each other 😛🤣

I am not ready for another week of terrorism by the Trump administration. And yet I rise… so too must my energy.

Hateful awful people who feel emboldened to come out from the rocks they’ve been hiding under. On the first night of Passover 🤬

I saw a group of people with whom I grew up yesterday; it feels like fewer than half of them have children and many who do, have only one. This is the same for my 14 cousins. And these are not generally people lacking the financial means.

Crazy crowd of 35,000 at the AOC & Bernie Sanders rally in LA. 😳👏 #FightOligarchy

This is scary. Anyone who's worked to link records on the same people across datasets (entity resolution) knows MANY errors are inevitable. After 7 days, list says you are in country illegally.
