I’ll bite: pigmentation. From Latin (so, an ancient word) “pigmentum”.

I would appreciate being added. I am a Senior Professional Wetland Scientist by the Society of Wetland Scientists but I have a keen interest in many areas of ecology and island biogeography. I have BS and MS degrees in zoology and a coauthored paper from years ago.

Sorry, I can’t support exotic species, even beautiful ones, as these are exotic in the US.

Anecdotally, Emerald Ash Borers have scoffed at Michigan winters for 20+ years and now that they are in southern states, I can’t see them being too hardshipped by this cold weather.

Indigo Buntings are awesome, but I gotta say the Painted Bunting is even more awesome.

Flamingos in Florida were native in the 1800s but hunted to extinction for the plume trade. There are established wild non-native populations that escaped from zoos. In 2023, Hurricane Idalia blew in about 100 wild Flamingos from the Caribbean that created a wild, native population. Welcome Back!
