SNL50 and related programming was a solid success for NBCUniversal, both in terms of audience size and revenues. variety.com/2025/tv/news...

I've watched all 59 Super Bowls on television. (Yes, I know the first two games weren't called the Super Bowl.) The recent LIX stands as one of the least notable events. Maybe it's just how the times are, but in terms of celebrity buzz, surprise occurrences, etc., the moment was lacking.

There's a new video on You Tube claiming Humble Pie and Vanilla Fudge were great (which is true) but obscure (not true) bands. One of my favorite concerts was Vanilla Fudge and Iron Butterfly when both were at their peak. For real great obscure bands try Madura and Wild Turkey. I saw both live also.

Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles and Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts!

This is an unusual Super Bowl for me. I think highly of both teams, players, coaches, and organizational persons. Maybe I have a small preference for Kansas City (lived near there some years ago and have been to games in their stadium.) Overall though, I'll be happy with either team as the winner.

If you though The Beatles and Jimmy Carter winning 2025 Grammy Awards was odd, an even more unexpected winner was the pioneering 1981 computer game Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. It won for new music written for a updated reissue of the game.

Watched "Blue Velvet" tonight, part of my "watch the films of David Lynch again" mode. I was wondering. Does the VHS version have different framing than the DVD and Blue Ray versions? I saw the VHS version long ago. It seemed like some of the scenes were slightly different. #DavidLynch #BlueVelvet

Newman's unredemptive performance as Hud was an important part of Patricia Neal and Melvin Douglas winning Oscars. The contrast sharpens the characters. #TCMParty #Hud

Watched "Conclave." I thought it good but not great. The performances and production design are excellent, but the story is ordinary. "Conclave" is rated PG. It never really sustains the drama the film needs.

Here's some book reading news: I've finished all five published Game of Thrones books. I started them about six months ago and in between read several other books. Overwhelmingly I liked the books better than the TV series where they differed on story developments.

Deceased great directors who never won a Best Director Oscar. (my list) 1) Stanley Kubrick 2) Orson Welles 3) David Lynch 4) Jean-Luc Godard 5) Robert Altman 6) Sergio Leone 7) Akira Kurosawa 8) Arthur Penn 9) Alfred Hitchcock 10) Sidney Lumet

I agree. 1000xResist is exactly the sort of computer game I think David Lynch would have enjoyed.

Happy New Year from the Eastern Time Zone of the USA. Best wishes for a great 2025!

This is brilliant satire worthy of The Onion, but people who think SMU and Indiana belonged in the college playoffs are unlikely to get the joke.
