Really, Big 10? Forfeits for not playing a game one mile away from a Fire Evacuation Zone while the fire was still an active emergency? Your priorities are obvious and not in the interest of your athletes or the public.

I'm in full agreement about "The Substance." The ending was routine and unimpressive.

Speaking of Best Picture nominees, I'm surprised an actual science-fiction film, "The Substance," is nominated and generating little interest within the SF sites I read. Also, this year may be a record for most SF/Fantasy films Oscar nominated (in all categories.)

Thanks. I didn't know that about the Best Artist category.

Is there a designer credited for the Dune Popcorn Bucket? Could this person or persons be nominated for Best Artist?

WDIV-TV (NBC in Detroit) cut to local news after the Garrett Morris/John Belushi segment. Detroit area viewers were not allowed to see end of the show with Paul McCartney. Why? Did the Sunday night news anchors want to get home 15 minutes earlier?

I saw Three Dog Night perform the song live. A good concert. I've also seen Randy Newman perform the song live twice. Both concerts were great. Excellent choice of song, Mark!

I met Jess Franco and Lina Romay at a convention near Chicago. Friendly and generous with their time as they chatted casually with fans.

When I lived in Green Bay, I used to grocery shop during the first quarter of Packer games. The stores were empty and the shelves fully packed.

If you're going to describe Michigan's "short-handed" bowl victory, you really should mention both teams had double-digit absences due to transfers, NFL draft and other reasons. Non-playoff bowls are increasingly irrelevant.

If the NFL used a college playoff committee to select the teams, the Eagles would have been eliminated after early season losses to Atlanta and Tampa Bay.

Do you have more details on Joseph Farnham? I think I've read he was Louis Mayer's "fixer" in addition to his screenwriting. With Farnham's death in 1931, Eddie Mannix (who was already working for Mayer) took on the "fixer" role. Is it true Farnham did special jobs for his employer?

I read too quickly and thought the proclamation was for "Glut of America Day," understandable since 2/9/25 is also Super Bowl Sunday.

A favorite Marianna Hill performance in an obscure film: "The Travelling Executioner." She plays a death row inmate who the title character falls in love with. This does not end well.

I want to see a Planet of the Apes movie where there's a war and captive ape-soldiers are put to work building a bridge on the Kwai river.

Cotton isn't picked in the summer. It's a fall crop. The opening sequence is cinematic but inaccurate.

Let's hope Celebrity Bear Hunt is paparazzi hunting celebrity bears.

It truly was. Tickets were discounted because I was a college student and the school sponsored the show.

Saw Yes many years ago. Intro act was the Eagles. Tickets were, I think, six dollars and we were about five rows from the stage. Both acts were great.

I agree. I still use my George Foreman Grill.

I know this is not a commonly held view, but I like the David Lynch version of "Dune."

Yes, move the Army/Navy game to week 0 but retain the cold weather tradition by playing the game at Pituffik Space Base in Greenland. Pituffik is the northernmost US military installation.

Here's a good reason to hold this year's Oscars. Money: Both the fundraising for the fire victims and the needed funds the thousand or more merchants and working people earn from the event. Fundraising will help many more people than not holding the Oscars will help.

Outstanding! I wasn't expecting a playoff Scorigami.

Jonah Hex is one of the worst movies of the past 10,000 years. I admit, though, I only watched it once. Glad to have your confirmation after watching it four times.

The Cher interview was excellent! Hope everyone is safe from the fires.

"Edge of Tomorrow" is an excellent film -- one of the best for Tom Cruise. And yes, you're right, I would also have liked "Edge of Tomorrow" to win a Hugo that year.

You're right about fan behavior, but that is irrelevant to the declining importance of non-playoff bowls.

College football is a lot different than it was 25 years ago.

Non-playoff bowls are not representative of how strong (or weak) teams were in the regular season. Players sit out to avoid injury before the NFL draft or because they want a better NIL deal via the Transfer Portal. Using a non-playoff bowl to justify a prejudicial opinion lacks credibility.

After Carter wins the 1980 Presidential election, Ronald Reagan returns to acting. His performance as Jack Reed in "Reds" is poorly received, but in 1985 he wins an Oscar for his memorable portrayal as Salieri in "Amadeus."

His Girl Friday is an excellent adaptation of a classic stage play, "The Front Page."

You're right. Six episodes every two to three years isn't a series.

College football overtime is an abomination. Just play real football until one team scores, with both teams having the ball at least once.

Just another 31-2 game. A disappointment. Only small happiness that it's the first 31-2 game of the Super Bowl era.

No technical problems with the two NFL games today on Netflix live. No problems during Beyoncé halftime show. This is much better than what happened with the Tyson/Paul fight live.
