Oh, I'm sure he's feeling plenty confident given that his election win percentages have gone from 51% (2020) to 62% (2022) to 64.85% (2024). He probably figures he can afford to piss off a bunch of people. What are they gonna do? Vote for a Democrat?

Geez, we've got much better things to do than deal with his nonsense. He's an automatic block, no questions asked.

Chuck's not capable of it. His only talent is to shake down Wall Street executives for campaign contributions. I doubt he's had a conversation with an actual working person in decades. He has to go.

and to "demonstrate our value" (as they say), but the current challenge goes far beyond the issue of a wise use of tax money. You're already familiar with the weapons the fascists use, including nonstop lies about what libraries and librarians do and the demonization of librarians in their (3/5)

On those grounds alone that makes us a menace to unjust and corrupt power. We CAN fight this, and we CAN win, but to do this we have to build support in our communities. The good news is that a great deal of work has already been done for years to engage with our communities (2/5)

Geez!! BOTH of my Senators in NJ voted for Ratcliffe! And Kim was just elected! What the hell does he owe the Republicans?!?! FFS!!

Yes, he won with 49.8% (not a majority), and he's very unpopular. He doesn't have a mandate, and he'll have even less support with every passing day.

During the f#$king Gilded Age (!) Boss Tweed could be convicted and jailed, but apparently our standards aren't that high any more. Giuliani should be sitting in a cell in the Metropolitan Detention Center right now instead of thumbing his nose at the court from Florida. Geez!

I strongly suspect our elites will begin advocating for dementia victims to be euthanized, since would-be "eugenicists" are rampant among them.

GREAT episode, Rob. Your guest was a joy to listen to - I admit I got a little burned out on this album in its heyday, but it really holds up well and I can now listen to it again with fresh ears. Thanks for the opportunity to do that.

I like the little "...think about it...nothing's impossible" passage. I'm going to go ahead and say that includes the overthrown of Rand's corrupt regime!

So far my position is that GenAI for fraud and GenAI for legit educational purposes do not overlap anywhere. I'm sure plenty of people will argue there is a grey area. They're welcome to make their case, but as a librarian I just find other things more worthwhile to spend time and energy on.

So we have "enhanced cheating technology," which is another nail in the coffin of democratic education. This seems just Jim Dandy with today's higher ed admins, who pretty much all talk about education solely in terms of its "job market value," period.

I guess we have to pay attention to it, but I think we all need to be very specific in stating why. What is one's concrete interest in GenAI? People who want to engage in fraud will do so, and GenAI gives them a tool that supports it while evading detection. Legit and ethical uses live elsewhere.

I stopped teaching last year because abuse of AI became pretty much uniform. It's not clear why I should spend a precious minute reading or grading something a student didn't write. The only way I could resume teaching now is by making all writing assignments in-class exercises.

Indeed - I'm still amazed by all the people me around who suddenly claimed expertise in "Sharia law" some years back.
