Last year, I was invited to put together some packs for Pandora Books featuring some of my favourite children's books. Have just published a new blog about some more superb texts from the collection which explains the reasons behind why I chose them. www.pandorabooks.co.uk?_route_=coll...

Think I’m going to have to claim Donut Squad first because there’s no way I’m seeing any of these till June after tomorrow.

Year 6 children have been begging me for this for the past few years. There will be a lot of very happy readers when I tell them this afternoon. Definitely a must have series for UKS2.

Expectations were high for this, but somehow @goraina.bsky.social and @scottmccloud.bsky.social managed to exceed them. A stunning journey that will inspire so many children and give them the boost they need to go and create their own masterpieces. Truly a must have for all schools.

The Pluto Rocket graphic novel series by @paulgilligan.bsky.social is enormously popular with our KS2 children. Lots of hilarious dialogue and entertainingly ridiculous plotlines. Streetwise pigeon Joe Pidge has very quickly become one of my favourite book characters! @pushkinchildrens.bsky.social

Cover reveal! The fourth entry in Agents of S.U.I.T., Sew Much Trouble, comes out 2/17/26! @patnlewis.bsky.social us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

Really enjoyed Ghost Town, especially because it took the story in several different directions and wasn’t afraid to take some risks. Think this is definitely going to be a popular one with UKS2.

There are now hundreds of inspirational examples of practice on the @openuni-rfp.bsky.social website. I've just spent a few minutes reading through a fantastic one about the importance of graphic novels from my former colleague @richardruddick.bsky.social. So many ideas! ourfp.org/eop/graphic-...

Absolutely adored this new collection from Marvel. It’s predominantly wordless and there’s so much for readers to explore, plus Jeff is a truly adorable main character. Lots of Calvin and Hobbes influences too for older readers to enjoy. A true delight and a great addition to KS2 libraries.

It’s the first look at KICKFLIP! Check out Logan Hanning’s amazing illustrations..!! 🛹💛🤍💜🖤🛹 KICKFLIP is the story of Elliot - a teenager who is seen as a girl at school and a boy at the skate park, but neither of those are who they truly are… Coming this June!! 🛹💛🤍💜🖤🛹

A graphic novel/comic book about graphic novels/comic books, the Cartoonists Club by @goraina.bsky.social & @scottmccloud.bsky.social is the perfect read for budding cartoonists in KS2 upwards. Out now from #ScholasticUK #KidkitUK #IlUKKidlit worldssmallestlibrary.wordpress.com/2025/04/24/t...

All Bumble & Snug books are absolute must haves. Cannot wait to get my hands on the new one.

Started the day with this fun and chaotic story from @nosycrow.bsky.social & @heychante.bsky.social that could be used brilliantly to inspire young readers to take action in a purposeful manner. Perfect for getting younger readers to think about the difference and changes they can make.

Looking forward to having a read of this new offering from @nosycrow.bsky.social . Already had a flick and fantastic ti see science being represented positively and in a way that can inspire readers. Plus chomps are a hugely underrated chocolate bar so buzzing about that too!

Serial Chillers: The Witch in the Woods by Jennifer Killick is a lot of fun for Y6 children who are just discovering the pleasure to be found in a good horror story. Creepy and atmospheric but also a lot of fun to read.

Yet another top drawer piece of work from @danielwarrenart.bsky.social . Visually stunning throughout and packed with emotive storytelling. Had me gripped from page one and I would love to read so much more set in this world.

#FreeComicBookDay is on Sat 3rd May, and Gosh! comics will be celebrating with a jam-packed day of events! We will be joining the fun at 10am, along with Alexis Deacon and Joe Todd-Stanton. We hope to see you there! Info here: goshlondon.com/the-gosh-blo...

Be amazing if £1.5m could be invested in the UK comics scene, wouldn’t it? Someone’d need to build a fully-costed, well-reasoned argument to DCMS for such a thing first, I guess… WELL, NOW. Come see what your friends at CCIC have done! www.thecomicsculturalimpactcollective.org/CCIC%20DCMS%...

My piece in the Sunday Times about reading graphic novels for pleasure, with recommendations by teachers and experts. www.thetimes.com/culture/book...

Pleased to announce my involvement as part of the @theweekjunior.com.web.brid.gy book awards this year. Can't wait to see which books are featured.

Graphic novels seem to be generating lots of discussion and publicity at the minute, which is only going to help them become a more appreciated form of reading. Here are some exciting titles coming out over the next few months. Available to pre order here uk.bookshop.org/lists/great-...?

The Wrong Shoes, written and illustrated by Tom Percival, was one of my favourite books of last year. It explored several important themes and was a great read. I created some free resources based on it for @teachprimarymag.bsky.social, which can be found here: www.teachwire.net/teaching-res...

This book is stunning and a real must have for UKS2. If you have a chance to grab a signed copy I can’t recommend it enough.

Very late to the party but finally got round to reading this and loved it. The kind of fantasy adventure I would have adored when I was younger and it would be a perfect book to read to a class. The possibilities for voices would make it a perfect choice

"Don’t be scared to put yourself out there." Wise words indeed from #UV26 Honorary Chair and author of the award-winning Loki series @louiestowell.bsky.social Read our interview with Louie, which includes top tips for entering @scbwi-bi.bsky.social @uvcompetition.bsky.social tinyurl.com/22j7h67r

Finally got round to finishing this after a busy week. @juniba.bsky.social has created a truly beautiful piece of work that has you engaged from page 1. Such a fluid book that felt as close as you can get to reading a Saturday morning cartoon. Loved it and I need more!

Have just made a couple of tweaks to my list of picturebooks that could be used in assemblies. They all link to key dates and events, and promote diversity, inclusion and empathy. Please feel free to download and adapt. The link can be found here: padlet.com/Jon_Biddle/r...

Speechless by @mrwolfcomics.bsky.social (creator of Mr Wolf's Class) is a masterpiece. So many children, and adults, will be able to relate to Mira and her struggles to speak in public. It's a book bursting with empathy and a perfect graphic novel for the Y5/6 bookshelves. Do track down a copy.
