This isn’t to say every nerd is an incel. Don’t get me wrong. But there’s an overlapping group there.

So between losing their platonic friendships, and also having a lower opportunity to date similar women simply due to being in the same small, closeted fandom - the nerds who couldn’t adjust simply got left behind in “real life.”
Where did they turn? 4chan. Reddit. Being toxic on twitter.

Not only did guys have a larger selection of platonic friendships they could share fandoms with, but women in general also got more interested in geek culture.

Nerds had to adapt or get left behind. Simply being in a fandom no longer guaranteed access to the “in” club for a particular closed group.
While a good portion of us gracefully integrated ourselves into the new scene, many people simply got left behind in the social aspect.
