Bullshit. She just won a senate race against Collins with that exchange.

How can this old-ass jazz fan not already know about this album?
comment in response to post
Yup. That’s the flag. And fuck YOUR feelings, but NOT bubba’s and those who are bubba adjacent, cuz that hurts too. I’m starting to get this philosophy.
comment in response to post
This feels both precious and opportunistic, but that’s not the worst thing to happen on this platform. I’ll take your word for it.
comment in response to post
We’re talking about a social media post, not a sonnet. This is all a little disingenuous.

When Ezra Klein used the phrase to describe mindless Republicans in Congress, were you this offended?
comment in response to post
Fuck you, chief. No one’s talking to your dumb ass.
comment in response to post
That seems scary and true.
comment in response to post
Lol! You’re trash, dude!
comment in response to post
There ya go, big J. Proving the points subtly made by others that social media is where violent morons go to play.
comment in response to post
Bizarre. Simply bizarre take.

He literally shared this earlier…

Jamelle, it’s crazy to hear you take this line coming from the NYT opeds. Do you not hear the howling vitriol aimed at that institution? They are not making fine distinctions between Haberman, King, and your work. It is vicious commentary and it’s nothing if not crude and illiberal.
comment in response to post
Hey I’m trying. There is some good nonpolitical content. But you’re playing naive if you thinks it’s user error that causes the place to sound like a screaming echo chamber of anger and snark. There’s something in the design - beyond just the character count - that makes it disproportionately ugly
comment in response to post
He may have been onto something? Since neither of us have read the piece, we’ll never know.
comment in response to post
I thought you probably felt that. I just would ask you to explore the hyper-ideological and almost cartoonish sound to that post. This magical ability to find villains in all shadows is really not a good thing. Let’s call it a day?
comment in response to post
Yikes. Yowza.
comment in response to post
It’s an ideas-based approach to exploring complicated things. Your inability to get beyond ad hominem attacks and insults is exactly the thing we need less of. We live under neo-fascist or fascist-adjacent thugs, and you think TCW and the Atlantic are the problem?
comment in response to post
Understand. I feel less tribal loyalty to any of the platforms, as it seems they all elevate extreme and combative voices at this point.
comment in response to post
That place is a swamp. Now Blue is going down that road with extremism, blame and anger. It’s ugly in many ways.
comment in response to post
There’s definitely a better word. The vibe here is so completely disconnected from communication and instead feels like a killer bee swarming. If it wasn’t for the music and poetry folks, i’d have to check out.
comment in response to post
John, have you walked around this joint much? The psychotic inability of so many to even have a discussion here is the defining characteristic. It’s worse every day.
comment in response to post
You give them magical powers they dont have. They cant doom us and they cant save us. Blame.the.fucking.voters.
comment in response to post
Whats up with the news hate? You want only OAN and Fox types in the room asking questions? You think that serves AP’s mission better? MAGA would love that shit.
comment in response to post
We’re not going to agree. Some of the writing is outstanding, some not. Political messaging has likewise been all over the place. Times are tough. We’re struggling. I’m not interested in finding blame right now. The amount of media blame on here is striking and counter productive. The end. Gotta go.

They’re held hostage by a billionaire. Some of the best investigative journos in the country work there and hate that motherfucker. You should support their work and help them ride out his effort to crush them. This cannot be that hard to understand.
comment in response to post
We literally started this fucking tedious conversation with me defending serious, however imperfect, sources of public fucking information like the NYT and the WaPo. Plan: read them and don’t bitch about media purity. Support their presence in the media landscape. Thats the fucking plan.
comment in response to post
Wheres your plan? Shitting on the NYT is a plan? It definitely constitutes most of the lazy activism on line.
comment in response to post
They clearly aren’t good faith members of the press. Lumping the NYT and WaPo in with that garbage is actually how we got into this conversation. Citizens have, as always, obligations to seek to be informed. Its not the mainstream non-ideological media’s role to babysit them.
comment in response to post
I would start by encouraging their critical thinking and lessening time wasted on emotion provoking social media. Read widely. From diverse sources. Avoid ideological thinking. Don’t expect any source to possess the truth, but engage with ideas. Don’t blame others for your lack of knowledge.
comment in response to post
They get their news from FB and Instagram chief. Hold them accountable for their own stupid choices, don’t expect media to rescue us from ourselves.
comment in response to post
Turn the question inward, grasshopper. What have we become that we seek to hold journalists responsible for the misguided decisions of voters?
comment in response to post
I don’t give any sweeping power to the media. Really compelling stuff on, say vaccines or climate change, doesn’t make much of a dent with the public. The media, mostly made up of good faith professional journalists, do their best in tough circumstances. Im not going to blame them for others choices
comment in response to post
Sure, but they cant insist people engage with critical thinking, all they can do is offer information. And not just on American politics, but on Syria after Assad, human rights abuses in Myanmar, the fallout from USAID collapsing in Africa etc. I wish we read more and talked less, but, well, we dont
comment in response to post
Clueless and lazy analysis. I know it makes you feel activisty, but its just bullshit.
comment in response to post
Voters voted fascist. Blame the voters.
comment in response to post
And subs went up consistently during Biden years, not just Trump elections, counter to the myths. People want news and professional international bureaus.
comment in response to post
You’re doing MAGAs work.
comment in response to post
Its a fucking headline, man. Not a mystic scroll or tea leaves to interpret. Media hate is MAGA work.
comment in response to post
There’s so much intensity and anger on here. Constant. Just.give.it.a.fucking.rest.
comment in response to post
So nice. Just shared this a day or two ago…
comment in response to post
So you cherry pick Baker’s analysis piece and don’t send along the countless others about the constitutional crisis, judicial interventions, and extremism of this admin? They are literally in today’s Times. That’s game playing, not media crit, and its dishonest. Leave me out of this chat.
comment in response to post
You might be out of your mind. Don’t foreclose that paranoid possibility.
comment in response to post
Beautiful and sad. Elements remind me of Merwin’s West Wall; this with a happier and thankful twist.
comment in response to post
Blaming me too. Damn, you don’t fuck around with the blame game huh? Let me know when you add anyone else to the guilty list.

Lotta Love is so sweet and goofy

Since you don’t subscribe or read it, your witchy wisdom on the topic is based on social media, right? Thats where all discerning people get nuanced news, I hear…
comment in response to post
Again thats a lot of generalizations about the motivations of a lot of different people, all with a blaming slant. Im not there with you. I don’t blame media, i blame voters. Media cant fix dumb/racist/lazy voters
comment in response to post
Free is of course not bad but free is suspicious. Its like the podcast phenom. I need to feed the ideological needs of my core listeners and therefore keep advertisers happy. Thats why HuffPo is a cartoon. Heather Cox Richardson is free but has carved out an extremely rare niche.
