Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Timeline cleanse. Plus, you should enjoy these beautiful images of Earth before this satellite is turned off as a part of proposed huge cuts to NASA.

Ten years ago (!!), NASA's asteroid belt explorer Dawn captured this view of Occator Crater on the dwarf planet Ceres. The bright areas turned out to be deposits of salts that likely came from liquid that percolated up to the surface and evaporated. science.nasa.gov/dwarf-planet...

Hello. I live in Los Angeles. The president is lying.

Happening now: NASA's Juno mission is closing in on Jupiter for the spacecraft's 73rd close encounter with the giant planet. Follow along virtually in real time at eyes.nasa.gov/apps/solar-system/#/sc_juno See the latest real images from Juno at missionjuno.swri.edu/junocam/processing

Less than 45 minutes after President Donald Trump thanked the National Guard "for a job well done!" Mayor Karen Bass clarified on social media "the National Guard has not been deployed in the City of Los Angeles."

Reminder that this country had an insurrection on Jan 6 and Trump refused to send in the National Guard.

I am thinking and reading about apocalypses and dark ages, their causes and cures. I am planning for aftermaths. I am writing about ghost towns at night. I never stop listening for owls.

Things we've learned in the past 24 hours: 1- Men are too emotional to be leaders 2- Elect more Democratic women to office

It took just 15 years to get from Citizens United to this

Soviet humor.

So glad this came out on a slow news day.

I’ve been hanging onto these images for literally years waiting for the the right moment to post them and it’s safe to say that day is finally here

Look beyond Trump and Musk's public blowout to the bigger problem: the infiltration of Big Money in our politics. It has corrupted our democracy — creating a vicious cycle that funnels more wealth and power to those at the top while drowning out the needs of regular Americans.

Trump is about to find out in a very painful way that building a coalition of the worst, dumbest people imaginable, many of whom actively hate him and each other but are trying to use the situation for their own gain, was a terrible idea.

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

Good morning! 🪶

Same, Linus, same.

Literally every use case for AI has people who actually care about the thing that’ll tell you in detail why it sucks

AI is Getting Worse, but It's Getting Worse

I rarely get accused of faking photos, but for some reason people had trouble believing this one. Eventually Snopes even did a write-up. (I passed.)

Speaking of ESA, happy 50th anniversary to them! They've made amazing accomplishments in space and on Earth (including building the Hubble camera I used to get my PhD!), and our planet is a better place with them on (and above) it.

Wrote a poem. Deleted it. Thought of you.

I never watch the scatter'd fire Of stars, or sun's far-trailing train, But all my heart is one desire, And all in vain: For I am bound with fleshly bands, Joy, beauty, lie beyond my scope; I strain my heart, I stretch my hands, And catch at hope. – Christina Rossetti Hard days for star-longers

STOP asking AI systems for "opinions" and presenting their outputs as reasoned responses. AI systems don't think or reason. They don't have "opinions." All they're doing is rewriting/recreating answers cobbled together from whatever materials were fed to it.

every article about politics in every mainstream publication is flat out lying to you if it does not emphasize that our government has been taken over by freaks and lunatics

This is for Juno ❤️

As Heidi says (and knows well), this is the start of the process. American space scientists are hardly alone as the target of gratuitous, damaging cuts. Park rangers, rural nurses, migrant restauranteurs, chemistry PhDs, and countless others have suffered. Ask Congress to restore sanity. 🔭🧪🛰️

To me the most insane part of the proposed white house budget cuts to science is that they hardly save any money! They do not reduce the deficit in any meaningful way! We spend a small amount of money on science, which has yielded incredible returns.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...
