With only a 40-minute window at LAX to change flights on my journey back from Mexico, the run through baggage reclaim, customs, the airport, TSA and our gate went by in a blur. So much so that I failed to realise I’d just boarded a 777-200 for the very first time.

It’s incredible how this station, as well as 20 others on the 965-mile Maya Train in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, took only a year to build, with the entire project costing a mere $32bn. Please take a moment to compare this to HS2, and the ridiculous cost and speed of rail construction in the U.K. 🤦

Right, so it seems the terminating Newbury Park train just wasn’t running on the day I went to visit the station. There are now three tph which roll out of the station into the siding track, and re-enter service a few minutes later as a Westbound White City service. How I wish to have seen it!
