I expected the Skrmetti ruling but it still feels really awful.

Tag urself I’m “deformed dog”

I don’t let AI write my psych reports because writing is when I think through what the data means. I said that to an AI-using colleague and was told “it’s just as valid to do the thinking while you edit the AI report or while you’re providing feedback to the family.” Terrifying. #therapistsky

"I'm happy to report I'm just fine. I lost a button. But I'm gonna sleep in my bed tonight, safe, with my family... At that elevator, I was separated from someone named Edgardo... Edgardo is in ICE detention and he's not going to sleep in his bed tonight."

Hell Gate did great local reporting today. They are absolutely worth a follow.

Trump’s next executive order, probably: “the REAL racism in America is that Jamelle Bouie is allowed to use that word and I’m not.”

Just found out this is the picture my 16yo has in her phone for me and I’ve never felt more seen.

“Apparently, it’s only ‘Jim Crow’ if it comes from the Bull Connor region of France. Otherwise it’s just ‘sparkling election integrity.’” - Madiba Dennie, The Originalism Trap (@audrelawdamercy.bsky.social)

I keep thinking “I should really subscribe to The Atlantic.” And then they print articles like this one and I’m reminded why I haven’t.

I spent the weekend creating something beautiful with 300 people who have spent, collectively, tens of thousands of hours perfecting their ability to control the sounds they make. I’m sure you could get an AI to create “perfect” music. But why? What should I have been doing with my time instead?

Wanna hear Marin Alsop conduct Mahler’s 2nd Symphony in the National Cathedral? There’s a 6pm livestream available here: cathedral.org/calendar/mar... Be sure to listen closely for one particular first alto. 😉

🥹 Millions of Americans are coming together on this #NoKings Day to reject authoritarian overreach, defend democracy, and stand up for their communities.

I just got refused alcohol service because I don’t have my ID. I am fifty-one years old.

“Are they trained in the exonerative tense” I am ded.

Me: “Oh wow, this audiobook I’m listening to about originalism makes this exact point.” Also me: [compares the authors of the audiobook and the quoted article] “…Oh! Yeah, that makes sense.” (The Originalism Trap by Madiba Dennie/ @audrelawdamercy.bsky.social is really good, y’all.)

Tonight’s cocktail is a Bitter Elder, much like myself. (Not that I’m composed of gin, Campari, St. Germain, and lemon juice. Just that I’m cranky as fuck.)

Remember when Pete Hegseth mused that “we’ll never know, but always doubt” that Air Force General Charles Brown got his position because of merit? Such a relief that in the Trump regime we never have to wonder if they hired the most qualified person for the job.

I read the New Yorker profile on Yarvin and it seems that he thinks of Usenet as having been the pinnacle of human discourse. I feel like that explains a lot.

“The core driver and cause of the low standing of the Democratic Party right now is not wokeness or immigration or Joe Biden’s age but the fact that Democrats are simply not effective at advancing the policies they claim to support or protecting the constituencies they claim to defend.”

Happy Pride month to everyone who needs a nap right now!

Current view: Onstage at The Maryland Theater in Hagerstown, getting ready to rehearse Beethoven’s Ninth with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. For FOUR HOURS.

After today’s episode of #murderbot I am more convinced than ever that Preservation is the Planet Of The UUs.
