Magic Tree House, maybe? The writing is not as beautiful as Wild Robot, but my kids enjoyed the stories and the predictable structure - and they started a lot of great conversations about history! (Plus there are a million of them.)

We use "sack lunch" or "cold lunch" to talk about food kids bring from home (vs ordering from the cafeteria). Not sure I've ever said "brown bag lunch"!
