Artist Edward Gorey sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/gorey_... was born on this day, so here's some examples of his work:

Great piece by @adamserwer.bsky.social. Reminder that this isn’t the first time the federal workforce has been resegregated: Woodrow Wilson’s 1913 order to impose Jim Crow rolled back almost half a century of progress that saw Black people working at every level of the federal government.

Build up a supportive, close community of fellow writers! This is the best way to discover who to kill and eat so you can gain their precious, valuable writerly powers. You'll be leveling up in no time!

Writing is like any other skill. It takes practice to get good at, and years of practice to get really good at. There are zero shortcuts.

All these motherfucking "you need us to be guardians of Democracy and the Rule of Law" organizations folding up their tents in the face of lawless Authoritarianism will be remembered for little more than their cowardice and failure.

1. Write 2. Finish 3. Clean it up however you need to, if you need to 4. Send it out--top markets first 5. Keep sending it out till it sticks (Adapted from Heinlein's rules)

Was chatting with @marshallchipped.bsky.social about joint tribute acts (A Foreigner's Journey etc.) a while back, and he suggested that there should be a Cure/Placebo tribute band. They'd have two sets and you wouldn't know which they would play

You know, they never stop at one group. Never. They come for one, they (eventually) come for all. They start with the smallest because they know the others will go about their business, thinking it will never happen to them. We should all be thinking about this. Because they will get to you.

TV ad: "How do you spot a liter?" Me: "I know! They look like fat quartz!" ...Might not have heard any of it right....

So, who's hoping for a mega-Carrington Event? Just me?

Given the choice between a political party that's a little feckless, and a party that endorses authoritarianism, prejudice and disregard for the rule of law, I'll pick the feckless one every time -- but it doesn't mean I won't push 'em hard to start giving a feck. Let's fight back!

Primary motivations to write: 1. I want to tell these stories. 2. I want to write the kinds of stories I like to read. 3. Sometimes people like 'em, and that feels good.

defunding a program that gives free books to children sounds like a great choice for your state's education system. I'm sure it's a super popular choice to thwart Dolly Parton, too

This story can't be repeated enough. The GOP is lined up behind the guy who is so incompetent that his quasi-gov't agency did this. They're confirming his highly questionable nominees & hurting the American people. And "accidentally"? It was stupidity, not accident. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.

Baldwin: "Last night, the president said 'I'm not touching Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, VA, I'm not touching them.' By this morning, he endorsed the House budget resolution which paves the way for massive cuts to Medicaid."

Democrats can’t sustain this kind of rhetoric without action. At the federal level they need to hold a 24-7 vigil at the Capitol until the coup ends. At the state level they could seize federal assets until court orders are being followed. We’re already outside the regular constitutional order.

Yet another thumb-headed fascist goon identified.

The punishing metaphors will continue until reality improves.

New spelling of "Quisling" just dropped.
