One of many things I remember about him:
It is not many dogs that look down on you when you are sitting in a car…!

When I was doing my postdoc in Queensland, we had a young biochemist as a colleague for some years.
He was actually trained as a surgeon, but couldn’t get his credentials accepted.
He was in Tiananmen Square when the tanks rolled in, and the next two months under cover before he could get out…

Ah… you got there 10 minutes before me…!
😊
But that tail says absolutely everything…!

Another interesting point is that there were two dogs in the household that got out of the yard. The labrador fell down the mineshaft, but the other one kept watch for him at the top, barking to get attention!

That’s…. Bad….
On so many levels…
I am reminded of the quote (I can’t remember who):
“You cannot correct a person’s belief using logic and facts, unless they arrived at that point using logic and facts.”
(I apologize because that is not as elegant as the correct quote, but my brain is tired…)

I’m with you on that one…! I am definitely not a morning person, but I cycle to and from work, and it is about an hour each way (mostly off the roads, so it is lovely seeing the seasons, and listening to the birds).
I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Not even in the rain or cold. Special…!

Eventually, yes… In the words of PT Barnham, “you can fool all of the people some of the time, some if the people all the time, but you can’t fool all the people all the time.
Only question is how extensive the damage will be by then…

Medicine guy here,
With mental health, treatment should be a conversation.
If something doesn’t work for you, tell your doc. If they don’t listen, go to a different doc. Ask questions.
Know what you’re taking and why.
If you have to, keep notes. How you feel every day. What is better or worse. 1/

Thanks! That’s a good one; I must remember it:
“It may not add years to your life, but I promise it will add life to your years!”
😊
Quality, not quantity…!

Many years ago, one of our neighbors had a peacock. Rather frightening to see one roosting in a tree.
The only thing more frightening as being within 5-10 m of the damn thing when it was trying to fly (the expression “moves like a brick” springs rapidly to mind…)

Precisely. I remember a comment from China and Penny Wong a while ago (year or so?) about the dialogue they have. The short version is that the list of things they disagree about is still long, but now it is a respectful discussion from both sides.
Has to make a big difference…
