I tend to see book proposals as different to journal articles in that it is (generally speaking) okay to approach multiple publishers, as long as you're transparent etc with them about that.

The inverse is also interesting regarding ideological gatekeeping in NT studies. I once received a negative peer review which asserted I hadn't included German scholarship despite my work containing extensive & nuanced discussion of Marx, Engels, Kautsky, Bloch, et al.
